Family Day

February 16, 2009

I've been having bike cabin fever lately... and decided to ride the Pashley to rehearsal despite the -20 weather.

It was fantastic! Since it's Family Day here in Edmonton (long weekend) the roads were really quiet. I just rode in tire tracks on the road. It was crunchy and at times icy, but that's no big deal compared to what makes biking in the winter really annoying for me. Cold I can deal with. I HATE wind and slush. Today it was cold but sunny - beautiful!

So I rode over to my friend Daniel's place for a duo harpsichord rehearsal. Nothing like some Bach to make a long weekend. Daniel also happens to have the most fantastic house (we call it Mozart's salon). We played some harpsichord and had tea. How very civilized!

Fun ride and interesting pictures. This house must really be fantastic.

I wish the US had Family Day. It was presidents' day, but that's really only a holiday if one works for the government.

Congratulations that you were able to take a nice ride!!!

Sunny ... with clear, crisp, and crunch. Nice riding weather in the midst of cold. A hint of bite in the lungs with rosy cheeks and nose at the end. Wonderful.

The wedgewood service looks pretty. Does the wigged cheetah have a name?

Very nice!
Though it's what I call, colloquially, "snot freezing" weather here today, I'll be riding in to work shortly as the roads are dry and the day is sunny.

I will have to show my son the picture of the ceramic cat in the Enlightenment period wig. You see, son has a very similar ceramic jaguar in his room (courtesy of his departed great-grand-parents who had brought it from Ireland when they moved here in the 50s). His jaguar wears a skateboard/bmx cap. So: funny.
Also: love the Wedgwood shots. Grew up with the blue glazed dinner service and always felt that it was best for serving cakes and cookies but that things like tomato salads looked rather absurd on the blue.
Your afternoon appears to have been lovely, all 'round.
Cheers,
Morgan

Dottie,

Boo for not having a long weekend, but you guys have memorial day! I remember being in NYC on memorial day weekend and oh man... the sales!

Freth & Morgan,

I'm not sure if the Cheetah has a name, but I DO find its wig pretty hilarious. Funny thing is, it fits right in with the house!

Morgan, I'm glad you like the Wedgewood! Daniel would be so happy to hear of it since he got this pattern recently on a trip to Dublin and was eager to show it off. Eating a bunch of savoury stuff off of the dinner service would be peculiar... over at our house we're addicted to fiesta ware. We're a little less pre-1800 and a little more mid-century modern at our place:)

S*!
