Bike Salon

Hello Readers,

If you're in the Edmonton area and want to come hear me talk about fashion and bikes, I'll be hosting a bike salon for the bikeology festival this Tuesday. My lovely friend Leanne is co-hosting with me so you can expect both of us.

Ordinarily I would be riding, but with baby Dexter I'll be walking over or taking the train instead. Oh, if you come you'll get to meet the baby too!

Tuesday June 9th
7-9 pm
Parkallen Community Skate Shack
11104-65 ave

Sounds like a great bike culture festival. I guess you'll do a good job. Would love to be there, but am far away ;-(.

Cool, I wish we had a Bike Salon! I imagine an Edwardian sitting room with ladies, tea, and velocipedes...

Hi and congrats on the babe!

I've got my own new babe - an Electra Townie!! I love it, I love it, I love it! Now, how to cycle with clothes other than spandex? Don't the skirts get caught in the back tire? Jeans too?

I'd love to travel around town on my bike all summer: Red Deer has great weather ususlly, but in real clother?

Happy cycling...

Debra

My three children are in their teens or early twenties and I have for years maintained that as soon as the flowers peek out, so do the bikes! I myself have an old 1950's Raleigh. It looks like something out of the movie "It's a Beautiful Life". Just riding it makes my bike riding all the more special. I started a bicycle basket business years ago for people like me and have found that yes, women like to accessorize. I bike in dresses and sandals, no problem. I must say my cycling is not as "athletic" as it once was in my twenties, but I really do see more this way! Thanks for the blog, a lovely way to get us all back on our two wheelers! CD in Calgary

Lovely bike,

I WISH it were that cool. Bicycles and tea time... sound glorious to me. The only thing I would need to add to make it utterly "Sarah Chan" is the addition of some chamber music!

Debra & Koralee,

Congrats on your electras!

Debra... sound like you need a chainguard, skirtguard, and fenders. That way your bike will never hurt your fine clothes. However, you can probably bike without that stuff too. I rode around in heels and dresses on my road bike last summer... it was fine! I suppose it depends on the outfit and the bike and the rider... but I'd encourage you to try before you discounting any bike/outfit combination.

People keep telling me I can't do things. And you know what? Most of the time they're WRONG!

Happy riding!
