Re-stock

I recently ran out of everything. Tooth paste, bobby pins, moisturizer with spf... desperately needed a visit to the drug store to stock up on essentials.

I've noticed that when I see people they unconsciously look at my tummy area. I guess it's natural to be curious because the last time they saw me I was super pregnant. Many of my summer dresses are really flowy so they don't necessarily show off the curves since I tend to gravitate towards things that are cut for the purposes of ventilation and sweat. I've also been wearing a hugely baggy linen shirt a lot that my mom bought me, it has really dramatic puffy sleeves. Despite how good these things look, I always feel as though people look at me and think "MOM hiding body in fabric" when I'm wearing them. I'll have to wear something more fitted one of these days.

For now, I'll keep enjoying how my dresses sail behind me when I'm riding!

I enjoy reading about your simple trips as much as your trips to the opera. Also, bobby pins - why does it seem like I've never actually purchased bobby pins in my life, but I can always find a couple in a drawer when I need them? One of life's great mysteries.

Hello Miss Sarah,

I have been looking at your blog off and on ever since it got listed on the "Top 50 Cycling Blogs" site. You do look great on that Pashley and I wish more people would make bike riding "cool" like you do.

I live in Japan (where I teach English, of course) and am a little disappointed in the bicycle scene here. Many young people, some housewives and old people can be seen using bicycles, but they don't look like they are enjoying it. The young people ride their bikes irresponsibly, talking on cell phones and leaving their bikes out in the rain. Maybe Hokkaido is still in the grip of the car culture.

When I was an assistant english teacher and went to different schools every day, I enjoyed wearing coat and tie while riding my bike. It really got me noticed, many people I met told me they had already seen me on my bike.

Now, unfortunately, I got a new job which is only a 5 minute walk from my house. No more bicycle commuting. Boo Hoo! But I found a nice country road through the forest for some early 5:30 AM bike rides (the sun pops up here at 4:30).

I make a point of going to the grocery store on my bicycle. I have two nice wire baskets which hook onto the left and right side of my rear luggage rack. I can take them right into the grocery store with me. I have to pack the eggs very carefully though!

It just seems so obvious to me that the bicycle could change our world dramatically: less pollution, more healthy bodies and minds. I wish gasoline prices would go up again!

Hello Miss Sarah! I recently found your blog and I commend you for riding your bike in a DRESS AND heels and especially when you were pregnant. It makes me want to be like you! But the weather here has been very unforgiving... I gave a little shoutout to you on my blog. Stop by and check it out!

Sarah, I'm horrified to see these photos. You are riding THE WRONG WAY on this street. This lane is a counterflow bus/taxi/bike lane heading north. You should NOT be riding south in this lane. You can even see the NO ENTRY signs in one of the pix. This blog has so much potential... please don't mess it up by suggesting that stylish cycling = bad, dangerous cycling. Riding in the wrong direction is incredibly dangerous!

Raf,

You're totally right, sorry! Asked Don about it and yeah... That is the wrong way. It's so wide and nobody is ever in there... I've just grown accustomed to riding in that lane both ways. Will make sure to cross the street and ride on the west side next time!
