Dim Sum.

My friend Chris has never been to dim sum. What?!

This is excusable when you grow up somewhere where dim sum isn't readily available or perhaps you might not have any Chinese friends to take you. Chris is from a well-rounded family with an appreciation for delicious food, and he grew up in a neighbourhood with a very strong Chinese demographic... it just never happened.

Our mutual friend, Ashley (new friend for me), wrote and said we should take him. I agreed wholeheartedly and this Sunday we braved the crowds and all picked up our chopsticks in Chris' honour. What I should really say is that my friends braved the crowds. I wrote to everybody stressing how it is unacceptable to arrive late to dim sum, and how if I'm going on a busy weekend I'd better be going with people who understand the etiquette of not sitting there while the eyes of the hungry hoards are casting murderous glances in your direction because you're not eating and leaving. I'll spare you the finer details, but Don and I were almost a half hour late while everybody was sitting and waiting and eventually had to break down and start ordering and eating.

Here's Ashley, an expert with the tea.

Although I've been having much fun this weekend, I'm obviously tripping over myself quite a bit. Don't worry friends, I am directing a considerable amount of my energy towards feeling disappointed and cursed by my hypocrisy. Rest assured, I seek to redeem myself on other social occasions. I'll start with trying to be on time.

Not that it's an excuse, but there was a head wind too... but that only added about 5ish minutes to the trip. I remain shamed.

The Golden Rice Bowl is a delicious place to have dim sum. They have wonderful food and today was no exception. I was, however, disappointed that they ran out of these buns I really covet and the efficiency on tea refills was dreadfully remiss. This has never happened before at this establishment so hopefully today was the exception to the rule.

Wade folded a tiny crane out of a gum wrapper.

Obviously Don and I rode. Baby Dexter slept over at my mom's last night so she is out and about with the little guy today. Wore my Vivienne Tam dress. The restaurant is located in a non-cycle friendly part of the city, but we know the area well and maneuvered our way over there. There are no bike racks so we parked by these power boxes.

Back inside. Christle making observations.

And Josh, a keen listener.

I was using the stubby lens on my camera so there are no photos of the people sitting next to/close to me. Quel dommage!

Isn't there always a headwind when you're running late? Such is life.

I've only been to dim sum a few times. It's fun to make a whole special occasion by riding the 10 miles to Chinatown - and more excuses to chow down.
