Dog Walking

Since the arrival of baby Dexter, taking Dougal out for scheduled daily walks is more of a challenge. We always take him out but he doesn't get to enjoy the same routine as before. Walks now depend on whether Dexter is sleeping, if there is somebody over who can watch the baby, and the time of day.

I can definitely take both Ds out at the same time, but Dexter has to be awake, changed, and fed. Then I've got to either strap him into a sling or what I prefer on these hot days is taking him in the frog. I don't like going midday because it as been so hot and all Dougal can do is walk a little bit and then pass out in the shade on somebody's lawn. And if I have the baby the sun is just everywhere. The last thing I want is a baby that is tanned to the point of looking like a russet potato (I saw one of these potato babies at the farmer's market one week).

If somebody is over I can quickly take Dougal for a spin so what we often do now is take him on the bike. Don goes on the mountain bike and they do this whole off road - off leash thing in the river valley. When it's my turn I prefer the Amsterdam because of the coaster brakes, then I can make sure I've got a good handle on the leash. The great thing about biking with the dog is that he gets a very intense workout in a shorter period of time. He loves it!

Got home after lunch with another mom & baby to find Don chilling out in between work things. Didn't want to miss the opportunity for Dougal time so I nursed the baby, put him down for a nap, leashed up the dog, and off we went on the bike!

Cute and efficient! I guess parents have to be very creative with their time :)

you are a good pet mama. The cat we had when Girlpie was born suffered neglect ( um that no one petted her often- not you know real neglect) she was a loner cat but she def missed our attention, which was shown by her sitting in girlpie's 6 month lap and letting her pull her fur without a complaint!
