The weather has been fantastic in Edmonton! It's in the high 20s all week so there's no way I'm wearing pants if I don't have to. Rode Pashley over to Old Strathcona to have a lunch of Vermicelli and Vietnamese coffee with Raffaella. Afterwards we strolled to the avenue to do various things like get music books, make deposits at the bank, acquire birthday cards for friends... just a bunch of random stuff.
I locked Pashley up next to a really cute Surly road bike. Judging by the proportions, I thought the rider would have been very similar in size to myself. Don't the bikes look like friends? I like how the Surly has a teeny tiny u-lock.

One of the moms at Dexter's mom & baby group is having a little Halloween party for the babies. I think it's just an excuse for the moms to dress up the kids but, I'm always game for a good costume! I've seen some baby costumes and uh... most of them are just really creepy. Not a little creepy. REALLY creepy. Who wants their baby to wear a gigantic smock that is supposed to make them look like Thomas the Tank Engine? 3-2-1 not it!
I like Dexter to wear things that look fairly basic. Too many frills and he just starts to look contrived. My first idea for a costume was for Dexter to go as David Bowie. Not knowing how baby was going to react to having eyeshadow applied to him... I've since decided baby D will go as Steve Zissou from Wes Anderson's Life Aquatic. A blue onesie and red cap should do it. I solicited Raffaella to knit him one so we stopped off at a nice little yarn store to pick up a few balls of bright red wool.

The card store had these mini nuns...

Same Miss Sarah and Pashley, slightly different location. I don't like buying a lot of jersey cotton because I get very sad when it starts to pill which it inevitably does. This dress has served me well all summer, and although it's expiry date will come, it wasn't today. Perfect weight and movement factor for riding a bike and being out and about in the sun.

Baby D is staying over at my mom's for an extra night. Very unfortunate news: Don's mom fell down the stairs a few weeks ago! Nothing is broken, but she is certainly not in any condition to babysit like she was scheduled to during this time of recovery and rehabilitation. Dexter stays overnight at my parents' once a week while I'm working (just saves on excessive driving back and forth) so instead of doing one night he is now doing two. It's not ideal because it messes with my milk production and more importantly, I just miss my little guy!
It's ironic because when Dexter is with me, my mom totally goes into baby withdrawal too. Just talked to her on the phone about how the day went and she's not complaining at all. Apparently in addition to going with grandma to lunch, shopping downtown, and getting paraded around his adoring fans, Dexter also quite enjoys sitting on my mom's lap while she plays mahjong on the computer. I hope he doesn't grow up to be an avid gambler!
Anyway, since baby is over there, I took the bike out this evening too to have dinner and a glass of wine with my girlfriend. Here's a picture of my bag in my basket while I'm waiting for a red light to go green at an intersection. Several trips on the bike in one day. It may be September, but it sure feels like summer!

We have had gorgeous weather here too. I am LOVING it! I can't remember the last time I wore pants; I take every opportunity I can to wear skirts. Hooray for your fun day! Love the yarn store and the nuns.
lovely. I wish my kids could have weekly overnights with the grands. I think this is a wise and wonderful thing. Keep it up.
Hope Don's mom feels better ASAP.
enjoy the weather!

Cool baby costume ideas - I like how your mind works :)
Super cute (and comfy, I'm sure) blue dress. Chicago is still in full, hot summer mode, too.
It is in the low 60s in Boston today, but yesterday was nearly 80. Seems that summer can't make up its mind whether to go or not. Dressing up baby for Halloween in something "fairly basic," like David Bowie or Steve Zissou? Nice!
We are basking in the same late summer here as well. It is wonderful.
I'm glad you enjoyed your day, even if you miss Dexter.
Is that the new yarn store on Whyte? Urban knitters? I may need to stop by there soon as I need yarn:)
Hello Miss Sarah--
Thanks for commenting at my blog. Yes, as MamaVee knows, you can be a mama and still ride a bike. I am pretty new to the cargo biking world, but I am totally hooked. I have actually been checking out your blog (you are FAR more stylish than I !) & have been looking with anticipation at when & in what sort of rig you are going to get Dexter out on a bike.
Gotta say that I am a big fan of homemade Halloween costumes. I don't knit or sew but I can dye a sweatsuit with the best of them & am all about the hot glue gun & craft foam sheets. SOO love the Steve Zissou idea. Please post photos of D dressed up.
Finally (and then I swear I will stop), a big cheers out to your mom. I am completely envious of the intergenerational caregiving set-up and believe that you ALL win on that one.
oh my!! those shoes of yours are divine. andddd my lady, how do you look so fab so quick?!?! it never ceases to amaze me what wonderful things the human female body can do
on that note, you look gorgeoussss!
& doubhle-yay for flickr (you know you can 'link' your pics, instead of 'uploading' them via the uploader?...

Did you stop at Ewe Asked For It? I'm a knitting amongst other things and that is the only yarn shop on the southside other then the brand new River city Yarns in the deep deep south.
I heart knitting it makes me happy.
I love your dress it is lovely.
Ilona,
We went to Urban Knitters on Gateway blvd and just south of Whyte (82nd ave). It was a really cute little place!
I can only knit dishcloths and have yet to perfect the garter stitch so the special yarn store was Raffaella's pick, not mine:)
S*!
Baby costume ideas are great, keep it up...
