Coco and a Car Rental.

My outfit today was inspired by Coco Avant Chanel which I saw the other night with some girlfriends. I rode that rainy night too, but didn't bother doing photos at night. Too bad since I was wearing this wicked zebra t-shirt.

Anyway. I'm an easy sell for movies about beautiful things so it's not surprising that I liked this French film where the poor girl looks so avant garde in her repurposed menswear. The person I thought about, particularly through the second half of the movie, was my mom. That big coat Audrey Tatou wears? My mama has one of those. And the loose fits. The cropped baggy pants. Deconstructed this and that... totally Miss Sarah's mommy.

I bought this jacket last year on boxing day and remember remarking to my sister, "This is so Chanel!" I wore it while I was pregnant, but kept it undone so my Dexter mound could protrude accordingly. Now it's back in action, all buttoned up. The vintage broach was a fantastic Christmas gift from my friend, Dave.

I had to return the rental car (I know, ironic since I don't drive much) and then get back home. The rental thing happened so fast. We were at the collision repair place when they were doing an appraisal on my now written-off car. When the guy deemed my poor little sedan no longer driveable, the girl in the office immediately booked me a rental for when I got back from Vancouver. I was like, "Uh... okay?" since I didn't have anything against having one... just that I wasn't sure I even needed it. Insurance was covering the rental, anyway, so I just took advantage of it in the event that it was going to snow in some monumental way and I might require it with Dexter transport.

So. The rental is up. I stuck the Dahon in the trunk and drove over. We went over the walk-through/inspection thing, took the Dahon out, dealt with the curiosities about the foldy bike, then rode off. The girl who was helping me out used the adjective "intense" do describe the Dahon. I suppose?

Did some banking, and then back home to prepare for my students.

Chanel inspired jacket atop the Dahon.

Changed handbags for the winter season. Back to this faithful servant.

Just a regular day, out and about, doing things with a bike.

Cool outfit and I love your solution for transporting your baby. I have just bought a Pashley after lots of research and the clincher for me was watching your short film of your day on a bike. It was just so classy and encapsulates for me the happiness of cycling. Like many cycle enthusiasts in Scotland my first bike is a mountain bike but I am loving the more relaxed, care-free feeling I'm getting from the Pashley. It's a joy to ride. Thanks for the great blog!

Ms Sarah
I have a Dahon and also a regular full-sized major-brand bike. There are times when i actually prefer riding my little Dahon. They may be slower than a big bike, but definitely lots more fun !

Perhaps the "intense" was more of her reaction to your commitment to biking, which I love! So did you ever use the rental car beyond driving it to your house and then back to return it?

I love the image I am picturing in my head of you pulling out your Dahon from your rental car, unfolding it, hopping on, & heading off back home!

Great boots! I feel like I'm saying that to all of your posts, but it's so true. I like the idea of the girl using "intense" to describe you in relation to bikes :)

Anon 1 - I'm so glad you have a Pashley! I hope you love it:) Glad my video pushed you over the edge.

Anon 2 - The foldy is indeed a lot of fun. I think I'm going to use it during the winter because the snow here is monumental once it gets going, and I'm allowed to ride on the sidewalks if my wheels are under 20 inches.

hergreenlife - I actually did use the car a few times! We needed to drive to campers village to get some madsen retrofit supplies, and to pick Dexter up from my parents after work on Wed evenings:)

sara - yeah, the rental people sort of looked at me like I was crazy, but since I was acting like the bike was normal they all just sort of went with it.

Dottie - I've been collecting boots for a long time!
