My sister asked me to go to the Lights concert with her. I went with no knowledge of the artist other than Sable telling me the girl we were going to see was electronic and pop-like. I'm not sure if she is for everybody, but I really liked her live! I've since come home and checked out a bunch of her vids on YouTube, and I'm surprised how little her official videos match her live performance.
She seems like a cool girl. Making music on her computer, obviously into comics and animé... she's got tattoos and a cute singing voice (it could be interpreted as breathy and whiny for those of you who aren't into it). I see the appeal. Plus, she plays keyboards and has songs that sound like they are out of video games (at least they sound this way when she's doing them live).
An aside. It's probably not known to most of you readers, but I've been wanting a keytar for years. It started one new years eve when my friend brought guitar hero to our annual bash. I sucked the first few times and got booed off stage. But, my persistence paid off. Once I figured out how the game was played, it became apparent that this was the one and only video game I was ever going to be good at.
Think about it. It's pushing buttons, hand-eye coordination, and rhythm. Those are all things a pianist can do. After years of watching my brother play video games and dying on the same level over and over again, here was a game that I was ruling at. I don't mean to brag... but when I play all you can see are colours exploding into flames and the intense blue glow of star power.
I wanted to transfer this glory at guitar hero into real music. Since I can't take my piano to go jam with friends I thought about ways to be more social with music. The answer is keytar! It's got the keyboard, which I am proficient at. Plus, the portable factor. And it can be used to make robot sounds. It's so Miss Sarah Chan it's not even funny. I needs it. I wants it. My precious...
So I surfed craigslist. Surely there must be some people who bought keytars in the 80s who regret it and never play them. It turns out keytars are very hard to find. And they are expensive! It's hard to justify spending over $1000 on a hobby instrument. Sigh.
Now after the Lights concert I want a keytar more than ever. It's the first thing on my Christmas list.
Anyway, we rode to the Lights concert.
Sable bought a new hat in Toronto last week, it kept her head warm.

I wore my faithful beret with squirrel pin.

Sable had vest and striped shirt.

I had jeans, t-shirt, and guy-like cardigan. What can I say? It was my day off and I wanted to be super casual.

We grabbed some vermicelli and tea at a Vietnamese place.

And off to the show!

For the record. Sable usually rides a Dahon Speed 7 which is currently in the shop. Today she rode my Curve 3 and says it's smoother and faster and more nimble than her Speed 7. FYI for anybody shopping for a Dahon.

When we were riding home, this one teenage girl said to her friend, "Look at their cool bikes!"

Nagyon nagyon tetszik a kabátod!
Üdvözlet Magyarországról.
Love that tea set at the Vietnamese place Sarah! And I also feel I have to point out that your "feeling casual" is my "making a big effort!!"

Wow! You got this post up so quickly!
I love your beret! Who made it? I had a wonderful black military style beret and seem to have lost it in the move from Louisville to Flagstaff.
Cute young ladies in lovely outfits! :-)
re: Dahon
It will fold up and fit inside my 18-wheeler truck. Then is useful to go shopping where I can't take the truck.
There is a keytar on craigslist, here in Denver, for $699

Still a lot of money, but less than a grand, anyway.
It's fun to see snaps of your sister. Sarah & Sable-- you sound so sweet together. Meanwhile, I just bought a chunky beret & hope it works with my short hair...
Natalie - You make me blush. Thanks for making me feel like a fancy lady.
misssable - I'm hard core. To the core. You know this!
She Rides - I'm not sure! It doesn't have any labels sewn in and I bought it in Quebec City. I've seen some pretty good ones at The Bay, though.
Freth - I want your granddaughters to be cute young ladies on bikes too.
Jon - Thank you for the keytar listing. I'm secretly hoping somebody will just GIVE one to me that they don't use anymore. I've gone from wanting one for cheap to wanting one for free. But this doesn't change the fact that I WANT one. So bad. Then I could have pictures of me biking around with my keytar strapped to my back. Cycle chic goes retro, yo.
Sara - When we were small my sister was such a pest to me. However, I realize now that it's my mom's fault. She always made me take Sable to go shopping or hang out with my friends on the weekend. No 12 year old wants their 6 year old little sister tagging along! Now that we're older and have travelled together... we're tight.
