Came back from a day of errands to find a running shoe box on the counter by the door. Christmas presents from my lady Rosalie in Vancouver!
I was right to be excited. The loot is SO GOOD.
Dexter got a hand made (in Canada) cate & levi puppet and a book about a tiny giraffe.

The Miss Sarah gifts are just as good. Rosalie must know about my love for Marimekko because she got me both a Marimekko memory game (equal parts dorky and beautiful) and a complete set of dinner napkins! We're big entertainers here at the bungalow and these are great because I can wash and reuse them over and over again.

Drool.

People are so thoughtful when it comes to presents. I've also received the most delicious selection of things from my lady friend, Crystal. She was the one behind the Betsey Johnson necklace from my Christmas Eve post. What I didn't write about was the smoked sea salt she also got me, and a tiny little salt pig to go with!

AND vanilla bean paste.

There is also some fantastic smelling BBQ dry rub she brought me from Dallas while she was on a business trip. Unfortunately it's not as photogenic as the other items, but I'll have to take a picture of my dry rubbed meat another time.
I feel so lucky to have wonderful and generous friends who know me so well. I'm still reeling from the good feelings of this holiday season.
And to top it all off, I got a call from redbike today. Winter Kona is ready for pick up so you can expect to see pictures of me on it tomorrow!

You're so lucky to have received the vanilla paste. I once bought the same paste accidentally and now I actually prefer it to vanilla in liquid form but I can't seem to find it at my local William Sonoma anymore.
dag - I haven't used it in anything yet... am thinking of making creme caramel for the first time. Do you have recommendations for stuff to make where vanilla really stands out?
I love memory games. Some of the older ones have the best artwork on them. I actually bought my hubby a memory game for Christmas. So simple, yet so much fun! Happy New Year Miss.Sarah!
Love that hand knitted glove puppet. I think the old fashioned toys are the best! I got some gorgeous presents too including a beautiful lacquered tea tray that I can't wait to use (although I'm a little worried about ruining in...). Thoughtful presents are lovely aren't they?
I think the vanilla would be stellar in this cheesecake but I haven't had a chance to make it myself.

Natalie - I love lacquered objects! Should be fine to use even with spills, as long as they get wiped up in short order. And hand washed, of course! What colour is yours? Is it a black or red one?
Dag - Thanks for the recipe! Maybe I'll try it for a dinner party this weekend:)
It's black Sarah, with a beautiful platinum circle off to one side. I'll be posting a picture on my blog soon. It really is gorgeous. Are they OK with heat do you think - like a teapot with boiling water? I presume so but I do get worried when using something so beautiful...
Natalie - Teapot with boiling water is likely fine, but I won't put a kettle off of the stove onto it. If you're really worried, you can sit your teapot on a lovely napkin, just in case?
