LBD.

Little black dresses. Ladies, we've all had one at some time or another. I actually don't wear too much black on a day to day basis. However, much of my dress collection consists of black dresses. I suppose they're very widely available. For me, a dress is the equivalent to a suit. Suits look horrible on me because my arms are always too short and so are my legs. A dress is something I can wear right off the rack.

Don and I went to the Edmonton Public Library's Christmas dinner the other night. It was so lovely. Library people are some of my favourites. The woman sitting next to me works on farms for fun and has been car free since 2000. How inspiring!

This is one of my favourite dresses. Well, who am I kidding. I love all my dresses.

(My mom bought me this faux fur over thing for Christmas).

I love this because of the unique lines. It's pleated and has a sweetheart neck, which isn't as common. Also, when I get zipped up into it, it's like wearing a well-fitting glove. For the last few months every part of the dress has fit, until I got to the last 3 inches of zipping up. With all the lactating it's been hit and miss with fitting into my formal wear. Wednesday night was kind. And I felt a deep gratification inside for cycling and how the activity has bestowed upon me the ability to wear this dress again. I was ready to concede that it might have to get given away to somebody.

Lately Don has been grumbling about getting to the gym. He's managed to go a few times last week, but every time he disappears for HOURS. There's the getting there, the working out, and the coming back. So on the weekend when we're supposed to be having fun together, I'm at home without any tag team advantages with Dexter care and waiting for my husband to get back from breaking a sweat. That's why I don't do gyms. They're so time consuming and when you don't end up going you feel like you're wasting your membership. Then you feel guilty. And the guilt isn't motivating. At least not for me.

I know a lot of people who have done a good job incorporating the gym into a routine. I've definitely tried over the years, but it has never stuck. I love working out while I go places. The equation makes so much sense.

Ride bicycle as transportation.

Arrive at destination.

Do stuff.

Go home.

Wear pretty dress!

I'm gym rat. Although funny that I haven't gone all fall. I've had post event burn out and I simply can't make myself go back right now. Riding helps me feel active anyway so I haven't fetl the need. although I'll have to start running and swimming again in the spring if I plan to do another tri. Luckily transport family riding is all the training I need for the bike portion!

Yes, I feel you on the gym thing. It's much more fun (and cheap!) to ride our bikes about town! And to take the stairs, or park further from the building...

You're looking great, and I love the little black dress! I've got one that I wear to basically every wedding. It's my favorite dress.

I hate gyms, too. I'd so much rather exercise outside. But some days in the winter, I give in and go to the gym. Boring.

So true. Why bicycle at the gym when you can do it around town!

Lovely dress and headband.

I try to wear a dress/skirt everyday. Life is too short to wear pants.

Fabulous dress! I enjoy riding my bike, but I also enjoy the gym at Saville Centre. It's so close and affordable and usually quiet. I can get there, work out and be home in under 2 hours no sweat (pun intended). Plus they have a nice lounge area to watch curling and tennis and clean changing rooms. At my age, I need intensive cardio and strength training to keep healthy. I've found that once I arrived at my mid-thirties (I'm 40) that more effort was needed to keep up my fitness and health. No complaints though, I enjoy it, and the strength-training in good to fight osteoporosis and helps to maintain the amount of muscle in my body.

Mama - You're hard core! I have friends who do traithlon... but the running. The running would kill me.

Jeanie & Cyclin' Missy - I find it boring too. And I hate waiting for the machines!

Christa - Life is too short for excessive hemming!

Judith - I hear you. I think that's why Don has to go to the gym because simply walking around isn't really enough. He goes to Saville too! Though, I doubt he is as efficient as you are. He takes his sweet sweet time. Perhaps if I need to ramp it up in the future I'll do something class-like. I'm a bad self-motivator. But I know lots of friends who burn off all their stress and steam at the gym so if that works for them that's cool too. And isn't it great that you can take the train there?

(the running *did* kill me. I freaking hate running. But the whole thing was fun, esp once it was done. this year I'm looking to pawn the run off on someone else and do a two part relay...)

Saville is pretty great :) Although it's probably hard for your hubby to work out at the gym in an efficent manner because people probably approach him all the time and want to talk about civic issues, right? If we lived in a temperate climate, I'd probably do cross-country running year-round and never go to the gym!

You look beautiful! I love the dress and faux fur jacket.
I love the idea of biking to take myself everywhere, and definitely do in the spring and summer months, but once our gross Pacific Northwest rainy season sets in, all my good intentions get washed away. I just can't find a way to carry a change of clothes, shoes, and makeup with me everywhere I go. Frustrating.

Hot dress!

I'm with you on gyms. The whole concept is depressing. I've never gone to gyms. I used to run a lot, usually outside and sometimes on the treadmill I owned. I go to a yoga studio, but that's so un-gym-like. Mostly I simply ride my bike to work and stuff. Go bikes!

Needless to say, the dress looks fabulous on you. Surely you deserve some sort of post-pregnancy shape award!

I've never been successful at embracing the gym either. Before cycling, I walked for exercise - just walked all over town, while thinking about all the things that needed thinking about. Cycling is even better.

I never had to think about my weight until I graduated and started sitting at a desk in an office all day. Ten years later I was starting to see the effects. So I took up running but I don't run outside during the winter so I joined a gym last year. I would go at least twice a week but I wasn't seeing results. Then last spring I decided to try biking to work and within a few months I'd lost ten pounds without even trying. I promptly cancelled my gym membership. I love that I can fit exercise into my day without even having to think about it. I'm actually experiencing withdrawal because this will be my first winter cycling to work and so I'm still feeling it out and taking it day-by-dayy.

Btw, you look smashing!
