Amsterdam Electra.

Admittedly I haven't been on the bike much since New Years. It's not the temperatures (though it is cold), my parents are in Hong Kong for three weeks and I've got little Dexter with me full time. Yes, I have the Madsen. And although I feel fine riding on the Kona in the snow I can't say I have the same confidence with the Madsen + young baby. Once he's tough enough to sit up on his own I will probably put a hitch on my Kona so I can pull him around in a chariot. For now we'll stick to transit, the odd car ride, and mostly trying to recover from two weeks of late nights and parties.

Figured I would share a photo I took in... early November? I was going to the New Asian Village for dinner with a blog reader who is moving to Edmonton and I saw this Amsterdam parked outside. An aside about the restaurant. Man. Talk about delicious. When events are catered by New Asian Village I start salivating immediately. Yum!

Back to the bike.

What a fun paint job! I generally like my bikes to be neutral and let my clothes do the talking, but this bike was seriously cute.

I'd love to meet the girl behind this bike. I don't often see cute girl-bikes out and about after snow has fallen.

So I might not be out that much, but girls on bikes are alive and well out there in Edmonton. Ride on, sisters.

I LOVE the co-ordinated seat, rims, handle bars! Such a cute bike..and to think my sister was envious because I got a pink bike ;) I feel some artistic tendancies considering the merits of spray paint ...I may have to do something about that ;)

So true: the people behind great outfits/bikes are worth meeting.

WOW! I have the exact same bicycle (though I know that isn't mine - even though mine also gets covered in snow - because I live in Colorado), and it is an absolute joy to ride. People often stop to talk to me just because of the bright colors on it. When I found it in my local bike shop, I HAD to have it, and it really is a statement bicycle. It's nice to see someone else shares my taste though. :o)

I really love learning people's "stories" and I do believe that every bike has a story as well. Fun to think of this bike and this bike owner's story/ies. I bet you will meet the rider some day.

Ride on, sisters, indeed! That's a cute bike.

I often think while riding - I would never ride as I am right now if I had a kid with me. Must be the biological clock, but yeah, I understand your reservations. :)

Dottie - It's that cookie dough brown snow stuff. Wiping out on it is one thing, but wiping out with a baby attached (who can barely sit up on his own) is a different story. Also, if it was cold and taking a long time. That's something I can deal with but poor baby Dexter... how traumatizing.

Well, they always say yellow cars are statistically the safest colour. So I hope its true for bikes too.

Nice - I love to see pretty bikes around the streets too.

Has anyone seen the (500) Days of Summer movie? It briefly features an Electra Amsterdam bike... with a wicker basket.

I was impressed that the movie also covered topics related to cities and architecture. And in one scene they show a couple riding the Amtrak train.

Kelley - I've always thought about painting my own bike. My friend Dave did his old mountain bike in metallic brown and made all the cables gold! Kind of awesome.

Cameron & Christa - I bet this chica is cool.

G.E. - Wicked! When I see other Pashleys around it's always nice to know I'm part of a crew.

Sara - If she's parked at that restaurant, the chances of us meeting are good.

Christa - I DID see 500 days of summer. On Christmas day, actually:) I did indeed notice the bike. And her dresses. SO good. I never wanted to go to L.A. but somebody told me if I watched the movie that I would change my mind. They were right!

Tej - Hopefully my cream coloured bikes can classify as yellow as well.

Meli - I'm glad you liked the Girl on Bike article! That website is very cool and I'm flattered they asked.

Sarah,

I love the dresses and suits in the movie too. The train to Santa Barbara is wonderful - relaxing and ocean views. Yes, visit L.A. + Santa Barbara!

Kitty Rides here..

Been ages since I posted on my blog.
I rode my Amsterdam Saturday in -27 degree weather!

I love my bike! She's even great in Montreal snow!

I've got a black & white Electra Townie and get stopped by admirers all the time! I'm 46 and grew up on a gravel road with a 1-speed Schwinn, so this is my dream girl bike. It just happens to match my black & white FJ Cruiser, which I call my 'mid-life crisis vehicle'. :-) I've always loved cars and bikes, and finally treated myself to something snazzy after years of plain and dependable. (I'm single and looking to do the same in the man department. ha)
