New 'Do.

Last summer my stylist for a good several years moved back to Saskatchewan. How dare she! In truth, I am very happy for her, as she returned home to be with her man and it sounded like they had a sweet set up waiting for them. I was very fond of that stylist, particularly because I converted her to cycling. She's the proud owner of a white Amsterdam Ladies Classic. Steel.

I've had a few other trims between then and now, shopping around for a new stylist. There was the one where she told me all about her divorce. And then the functioning alcoholic who I suppose is no longer functioning since he's not working at the salon he used to be at. In both these cases the cuts were decent and the salons were fine, but I really need a stylist that I can depend on! Somebody who isn't going to disappear any time soon and somebody who doesn't over share in a scary way. I think I've found her.

A friend referred me to Linda at blunt salon on 104 street. She's great. The location is great. I'm sold.

It's right on the train line too. That's music to my ears.

My favourite part of the train ride is when the LRT exits the tunnel from the University and goes across the river. When I'm riding north and southbound on the high level bridge on my bike it's likewise my favourite part of the trip. It's sort of overkill because everybody thinks it, but Edmonton's river valley is just stunning.

My trusty winter boots. Not the grey ones from this season you usually see, these are the ones I got at Top Shop years ago. They're excellent for tucking jeans into.

And there's nothing better than grabbing a Credo coffee before my appointment.

I love this cafe. It's got a really good vibe and killer location. It's clean. And delicious.

Afterwards I stopped in at Holt's to spend a gift certificate from Christmas. Bobbi Brown cosmetics... I love you.

And it was reassuring to see that in a city where many girls are wearing leggings (without the appropriate length top) or yoga pants tucked into Ugg boots (particularly the ankle length one), it's nice to see a young lady get it right. Just jeans. In regular boots. Yes, please!

And finally, the short ride back up the street from the station to the bungalow. What a fine afternoon.

I'm with you on the leggings and UGGs. I'm trying very hard not to be so critical of people, but I see young ladies at work everyday sporting these looks and it drives me CAH-RAZY. I guess they'll grow out of it someday, though!

now question as I know you are a straight leg pants girl- how do you tuck into boots? I am getting into skinny jeans ( never thought I would but have found some awesome fitting jeans and the jean legging actually works well with my bigger hips/ bum as they stay snug and on as opposed to falling down.... anyway I still seem to have trouble with the boots thing.

Cute 'do! Too bad I don't live near you, because the pics of your new haircut are like a great recommendation for a salon. I'm in between hair stylists and have a similar criteria. I also demand a stylist who does not ramble on about celebrities the whole time.

Michele - I know. I just have a problem with leggings when they're not opaque. If I can see your skin underneath them? They do not qualify as pants and therefore should be worn with a dress or a super long shirt that covers up the panties. It's a different story of people wear them at home for lounging or whatever, but at work and out in public? I dunno... the whole point about clothes is to express yourself, keep you warm, and in most cases, flatter your figure. I find that improperly chosen and coordinated leggings violates all these fashion codes.

Mama - If I wear skinny jeans I strictly only wear them tucked into high boots. You can fold the ankle parts so they will fit better, but I find you also have to have the right boots. If I'm wearing the jeans inside I usually roll them up and cuff them so their above the ankle. That way they're more Audrey Hepburn like.

Kerri - Good stlylists are so hard to find. Ones that can do the job and also ones who have personalities that match up right. It's like finding a boyfriend!

Leggings are not to be confused with pants! If I can see your bum you belong in an aerobics class not out on the street.

Great hair! And boots :) I'm a BB fan, too. I use her powder and eye shadow all the time.

Anon - I agree. I get leggings and a oversized sweater. Leggings and a tunic. Leggings under shorts or a dress. But leggings as pants? No thank you. Unless they're super opaque and are thick enough to qualify as mants (maybe + pants).

Dottie - My skin has been all over the place with pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Unlike other normal people who get a pimple and then it just goes away completely after a week? Mine seem to go away, but then leave a mark that just stays and stays... so I went back to the best foundation I've ever had. I stopped buying it for a while because it's so pricey, but it's worth it.

Uh-dorable new hairstyle!! I am avoiding my stylist right now, she wants me to try highlights but I think the upkeep is too pricey :P
Might have to check out blunt and the Credo lattes!
Wonder if BB is cheaper in the US?

Judy - I think stylists convince people about highlights in order to make more money:) But, they do look good...
