I've got a post coming about the horrid weekend we had with Dexter. Let's just say I've been getting a lot of pressure to change his formula to soy (my mom has been leading the charge on this). Well... we tried it. It was a bad idea. He is actually allergic to soy. I think that's the proper conclusion after seeing my baby with hives all over his body. Including his eyelids. And the spitting up after his bottles, which never used to happen. And the hysteria and crying and oh... I didn't think it was possible, but the increase in scratching.
It was a long weekend. And not the vacation kind.
I did a fair bit of lounging today in recovery. I'm picking up baby tomorrow and have heard he is doing much much better after we switched his milk back to normal. Yay!
This is my house coat. I requested for my sister to get me a cotton one like this the last time she was in Hong Kong. I figured such an item would come in handy after the baby came. With the intense lounging a new mom does during the first few weeks and all the nursing I figured this was just the sort of thing to cover up a nightgown, but still be pretty enough to be seen by all the people dropping by.

Painted my toenails too.

A little bit of lounging around gives me the second wind I need to take care of my baby Dexter:) Looking forward to seeing my non-allergy baby tomorrow.

I got really good at the smile and nod approach to other people telling me what was "best" for my kids. Parents are the worst about it, too! My Mom used to always say "Why are you so tired? I was never tired with you!" She had forgotten that she was a stay at home Mom with one child who preferred to be alone.
Sorry you had a rough one. Live and learn : ) Painting the nails is a completely appropriate response, too. I used gallons of nail polish/mascara/lipstick/scotch... : ) I am happy to report that none of my kids is dead/brain damaged/ in a cult/ picky about eating/ republican.
reading your posts says so much about how important it is to have consistant support when you are a new parent. being able to get that second wind is key and I am glad you are getting it. Love the robe.
So sorry D is allergic to soy. there is hidden soy in so much.
big loungy internet hugs. ( hrm that sounds kind of bad doesn't it)
I love that you painted your toenails to match your (beautiful) housecoat. You are awesome. Hope you feel rested and that Baby Dexter is all better.
Sorry you are getting unbidden advice form all corners. Been there. It really does stink.
Hoping you can find a few different ways to recharge the batteries... and I love your matching toes and gown!
All three of our children have severe food allergies. Since Dexter is primarily being breastfed, I wouldn't put too much credence in your doctor's assessment that he wouldn't be thriving if he had a milk allergy. Many doctors are frightfully ignorant about food allergies. Trust your own judgement.
Oh dear....poor baby D ! At least you tried it, right? I tried soy nuts a few times and have always broken into hives. That burning itch can be awful. I am glad baby D. (and you) are recovering from the soy experiment!
Hope baby d looked better when we returned him. I had to pin him down WWF-style and force feed him his bottle to calm down last night. He kept on thrashing and attempted to scratch his face. It sounds mean but he always puts up a huge fight!
Adrienne - It's SO HARD not to react to the stupid things people say:( Perhaps that's my inexperience talking. I need to learn to choose my battles.
Mama V - If my parents weren't helping me out I'd be an unemployed hermit.
Dottie - Thanks for the well wishes. He's so much happier now that we're not forcing him to eat stuff his body was rejecting! I am slowly starting to feel less and less like a bad mom.
Stylo - Forgive me because I'm horrible at remembering these things. Is this Morgan? If so, did you at some point ask me about some municipality-bike related thing? If so, I clicked on "don't publish" but then your email disappeared. If you click on my profile you can get in touch with me via email there!
Sungsu - The thing I despise the most about visiting the doctor is how fast they usher you in and out. Uh... thanks for gathering information to provide context for our check up?
Judy - D is as cute as ever. We'll hang soon so you can see him crawl! I heard that Shep is really sick, though:( Poor doggy.
Sable - I know. It's like a throw down all the time. Yesterday when I tried to put him to bed he kept grabbing the divider on the bed we keep so he won't roll off. So he'd grab the edge and hoist himself up into kneeling position while batting the bottle away with the other hand. I let him play for another hour and when I tried again he was ready.
Hi Sarah -- Yes... stylocycle is the blogname for Morgan the bicycle-riding professora in KW.
And no worries... you have enough on your plate these days!
Our bike group for campus infrastructure is managing to get things done...
Just read your post about Dexter and the wk-end of the soy... it all sounds so very, very hard... but if there is one tiny speck of 'bright' I'd say that it's in being reminded that *you* know best. We have had tons of drive-by parenting to deal with in 17 years, but by now I know that *I* really do get what my kid needs more than almost anyone else (except his dad.
