This past weekend was packed with fun events. In addition to teaching (I know, I work Saturdays) and the redbike party, Don and I also went to a function later that evening, we were volunteer models at a charity fashion show for McDougall House, and we were invited to have dinner at a new friend's place last night.
I love weekends. It's the same reason I love the summertime because I don't work during the summer season and every day is like a weekend. Friends. Food. The best.
Let's rewind a few weeks and go back to New York. We had the most fabulous Saturday night there.
We went to Ollie's for soup noodle and dumplings. It may be a chain, but it's really good.
My friend Claire goes to Columbia, we were eager to hang out, so she came.

And brought her friend Bryn (who coincidentally, also happened to be visiting from Edmonton)

Sitting across from me at a table results in having your photo taken.

After dinner we decided to go to the lower east side in search of appropriate venues for libation. First stop was Arlene's Grocery.

Tom's knee.

Afterwards we stopped briefly at Nurse Bettie, but it was too crowded so we moved on.

Perhaps the most atmospheric of all our stops was The Back Room speakeasy. They serve all their drinks in tea cups with saucers and mugs, depending on your choices.
At our last stop at Home Sweet Home I ordered a "glass of white" but the bartender didn't hear the order correctly and gave me a Bud Light instead. I drank it anyway and danced to fun music.

The place is known for their taxidermy.

After some time, Bud Light Chan (new nickname, less adorable than Miss Sarah) decided it was time to call it a night.

Passed through little Italy on our way to the subway.

And we also saw this Marilyn-Spock portrait on the wall of some building.

I thought this subway tile was great. I loved how there were lots of people on the train late late late on a Saturday night. You can use public transportation and still get home safely.

I realize all these fun times are only possible because I have the support of my family here at home. There are some vacations that I wouldn't hesitate to take Dexter on (like Jasper at the end of this month and Toronto at the end of May). New York was a place I definitely wanted to visit sans baby. One day, when Dexter is all grown up, he can do his own tour of lower east side on a Saturday night.

Are these all of the insider bars that Claire took you to? Glad you liked Ollie's, did you order steamed dumplings?
Looks like a fun night! Love that subway tile.
Sable - Yeah, Claire showed us a super good time. I ordered all three kinds of steamed dumplings.
Becs - It was indeed a grand evening out. It's nice to let Bud Light Chan out of the cage every now and then.
