I've lived in Edmonton my whole life but I have never, ever ridden the LRT north past the Coliseum. Never had reason to go up there. One of the new things I want to do is explore eateries and things to do in and around LRT stations all up and down the line. Last night I went out to Coliseum pizza for a delicious steak sandwich. We started with rollin' down to the station and locking up.

I like my new pedals. They really do make me feel like riding the Marinoni more often.

The view from the platform.

View from the train window while crossing the river.

Some parts of our north side are stuck in a time capsule.

Drive through?!

The steak house! If you ever go, you will also see that this place is stuck in a time capsule. Hasn't been touched since the 70s.

And look, one of those cars that is always trying to run me over.

Later on we walked the few blocks back up to the platform to head further north to see Iron Man 2 at a north side theatre I have never been to.

Train stuff.

More train stuff.

The boys, waiting around.

Somebody needs to recycle.

Upstairs.

Downstairs.

Somebody else doing the bike-train combo.

Waiting.

The movie was good! Loud. Explosive. Didn't require thinking. But thoroughly entertaining.
On the train ride home we had lots of leg room.

I love a steak and a movie. Can't wait to discover more tasty restaurants on the train line.

lovely photos as always!
question, my boyfriend just built a road bike with drop handles for me and i'm having trouble with bags!
so i was wondering what your stylish solution for bags are when biking with your road bike?
thanks miss sarah!
The train sounds pretty cool! I've been on the c-train in Calgary, but never the train in Edmonton. Will have to give it a try next time I am there.
Are the blossoms out on the trees now? They are now out in PG and it's nice and warm outside. I think I'm going to go for a ride. :)
Your lightrail sounds really nice - looks much cleaner than Chicago's L :)
Can you tell us a little more about your road bike? We don't get to see it much. I see that the make is Marinoni. Is it vintage or a newer model? Did it come as a single speed or did you convert it?
Happy - I know what you mean. I have a little collection of purses that have a really long strap that I can wear across the body, but they do occasionally creep around. I sometimes have to fling it back onto my back.
I have a freitag bike bag, but honestly, that sometimes gives me problems as well.
I sometimes carry a smaller purse like the small Coach market bag. Has hand loops that are just big enough to wrap around the handlebars and brakes. I like that solution the best. But it has the least advantage when it comes to cargo.
Carolyn - Next time you are here, get in touch!
Dottie - Some days/stations are better than others. The further north you go... the more ghetto they get. My favourite station is... Grandin? The least pretty one is University.
dreamlet - The frame is made b Marinoni, but it's custom. My bike store guys measured me up and sent them my coordinates so the Marinoni dudes could get it just right. I had it made in... 2008? We built everything ourselves (even put the spokes through the rims) and it was always intended to be a single speed. I love it! Coasting is the bomb. And it's so light it doesn't matter that there aren't any gears. I can take any hill you throw at me, as long as I have momentum.
I like the single speed because it makes the bike look so clean.
Aha! I've been looking for a lightweight diamond frame bike I can make a single speed but it's been difficult to find the right size because I'm 5'3". I seem to be just too short to fit "standard" unisex bikes comfortably. Perhaps custom is the route I need to take as well.
Bicycles + trains = transportation happiness!
Did you go to the Clareview cinemas? I grew upon that neighborhood when there was nothing but farm fields. I remember riding the LRT at Clareview station when it first operated in 1982. Back then the last LRT stop was Central, so I took a bus from there to get the the UA.
Wow, I feel old......haha!
Judy - It was indeed Clareview cinemas! Hey, if you grew up around that hood do you know of any noteworthy places we can find eats?
The train has come a long way. At least Isaac can enjoy it:)
I don't think there are any good eats around Clareview station. There is an Earl's, Red Robin, and an Applebee's nearby but nothing really unique. Most of the area around Clareview station is occupied by box stores like Best Buy, Wal-Mart,etc.
However, I've heard that Culina in the Highlands 'hood is spectacular. There's also a wool & yard shop, a used bookstore, a clothing shop, and a few other independently owned stores. That might be a lovely ride from Stadium station!
