Don and I went to one of our favourite events tonight, the Edmonton Public Library's annual Books 2 Eat!
It was dressy.

I wore this newish dress. I really, really like it. The lines. The colour. It's perfection. Don blamed my 50 mm lens for cutting my legs off in the photo.

Dexter stayed at home to play with his new toy kitchen.

Pumps.

The dress has a bit of crinoline.

I am rarely sans pashmina. And that is my trusty little silver clutch.

Beforehand we stopped at the CUPE retirement dinner. We sat with an adorable man, Henry, and his family. Congrats on your retirement, Henry!
We changed venues afterwards and headed to the fundraiser.
The library thing is really exciting because the food is oh-so-good. And the cakes! Various bakers of cakes created themed gateaux based on movies.

Alice in Wonderland!

Tasty burger and fries.

Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Dr. Seuss!
These two cakes were made by different bakers. I really love the expression on the elephant's face.

This was the Julie and Julia themed cake which was absolutely adorable. I believe it won the people choice awards! Congrats to Whimsical Cupcakes. You can read their blog post on how they put the cake together over here.

And treasure island.

What a blast and a photographic feast. I had a wonderful time running into all the fun library people I do so enjoy, and also random friends. I'll reiterate again and again, this evening out was brought to you by grandparents who help us look after Dexter. I'm the sort of mom who isn't afraid to ask for help, and I'm so lucky we have family nearby. Although being Dexter's mom is an integral part of who I am now, wearing a pretty dress out to a fun party with grown ups is the sort of thing that keeps me balanced.

Lovely couple! Your dress is perfection with the little touch of crinoline.
And the cakes! Yum!
awh, baby d is so cute! I have to make sure to give him his wooden breakfast set I got for him in Montreal since he has a place to put the food now!
I didn't know the library had events like that. Very cool! I'm there at least twice a week since it's so close to work.
Lovely dress. I especially like the pleats and the structure of the skirt.
Dexter and I match (check out my Mother's Day post)! What a cutie.
Dottie - I'll have to get detailed shots of the dress another time. I love love love it!
Sable - my students have been going bananas over how cool the breakfast set is.
Judy - The library has Books 2 Eat every year, it's a really fun event:)
