Cycle New York.

Some images of biking in New York.

Many of these were taken in Soho. Speaking of which, Soho has totally transformed since my previous visits. Before it was quiet streets and stumbling across that designer sale hosted in the gymnasium of a school. Now it's Payless Shoes. I'm not going to complain though, as I do so enjoy shopping at Top Shop. I'm just noting that Soho has really changed for me.

Change isn't always bad. Now there are bike paths.

Green shirt on green path.

Fire escapes on all the buildings.

A bike store! A skinny bike store.

Walking.

Riding.

Locked.

On sidewalk with hot girls.

Intersection.

Curse you. Driver of this double parked car.

Nonetheless...

Carrying on.

And finally, here's a little bike shoppe on the upper west side. Nice to see these little places all over the big apple.

In the course of writing this post I have developed a severe craving for thin crust pizza.

Hungry now.

that bike shop in the bottom picture has been there my whole life I think. I've never been in b/c when I lived in NYC I didn't bike and thought biking was only for bike paths or bike messengers. But I always liked that blue and yellow sign. ( I feel certain it's the same one as I grew up on the UWS but maybe I'm wrong? )

Mama - It's probably been there a long time. I just said I like that these places are cropping up because I like seeing bike stores, but I never actually asked to see how long they had been open.

I'll go change the way I phrased it, in case people misunderstand.

Thanks for sharing these pictures! Interesting, most of these pictures look a lot like biking in Chicago - that is, pretty hairy a lot of the time.

Dottie - These photos look pretty hairy because it was rush hour in Soho. The streets are just tiny and it was so congested. I rode around other parts of the island and it wasn't nearly this nutso. Still, NYC is a noisy place to ride!

Skinny bike store... wow, that's impressive!

Handsome bike paths. I would love to cycle around NYC! It feels a world away.

Soho is now one of the craziest places to bike in NYC. It's hard to even remember how sleepy it once was.

My husband's mother is an architect and her practice was in Soho back when it was a place where you could get giant raw space for no money. She used to ride him from their house on the UWS all the way downtown on her handlebars. Cannot remotely imagine this now!

I'm loving all the photos and outside perspective on NYC cycling -- it's cool to hear what a super experienced cyclist from somewhere else thinks about cycling here.

I too like the changes that are happening in Soho, it's seem more pedestrian friendly and has most of the things we look for in a place.
