I was very fortunate yet again to have grandma's assistance with Dexter this afternoon, which gave me another opportunity to embark on the adventures of the mobile office. After my last post my new friend, Zoe, commented that she also enjoys said mobile office. I suggested we should do it together since we're both in thesis purgatory, and today we went to her location of choice, Credo café on 104 street, downtown Edmonton.
I rode a few blocks past my LRT station only to stop at the next station to hop on with the bike. It was so wet and windy. And I was content to forego the head wind, with the resolution that I'd bike home with a glorious tail wind. So that's my Amsterdam's basket up there, on the nice, dry train.
Rain means a lot of bike parking for me.

I love 104 street. Even when I was in high school I used to have piano lessons downtown. My friend Richard and I would bum around before my lessons at times, and this was always a favourite street of mine.

Mini coffee tree at Credo.

They have tasty snacks.

And they make pretty designs on my latté.

Delicious.

I love people watching, and shoe stalking.

Zoe and our work stations (my stuff is on the right).

Jealous of this girl and her designer handbag and lack of thesis work.

Caffeine makes all productivity possible.

The high ceilings at Credo have these wavy sail things.

I was super casual today. Just some jeans and a t-shirt and cardigan.

Broken mirror.

On my way back to the southside I was on the high level bridge. There's this little hill at the end and while I was riding it I thought that maybe it was the wind or something, but I was really labouring. Turns out I had a flat on my back tire. ARRGGG! Luckily redbike was a mere 3 minute walk away so I wheeled the Amsterdam in there and my trusty bike men took very good care of me.
While I was hanging out I noticed Pashley getting put together! She is so beautiful.

Turns out some guy is bought it for his girlfriend and they're going to show up at the bike store tomorrow and there will be a "Happy Birthday" sign on it. Lucky lady!

Here's the Amsterdam propped up for some surgery.

Turns out the culprit was a pointy piece of glass. C'est la vie. Here is my Amsterdam without it's rear wheel.

Afterwards my bike mechanic asked to take a picture of me with this wicked old-timey camera he has!

Then it was off to the newly relocated Whimsical Cupcakes place to get some dessert for my dinner party. They used to be located in Riverbend, which basically required a drive. I'd go when I had special occasions, but with their new locations I can just go whenever I want via bike. It's so civilized.

They didn't really fit in my pannier. And they got a little smushed when I tried to put them on the back rack with the bungee. So I just ended up biking with one hand and held them in my other hand. It was a good day to have coaster brakes.

Here are the cupcakes, waiting to be consumed.

I decided to use the Marimekko paper napkins I have. A gift from best friend Richard.

Love having fresh flowers in the house.

I put out some shrimp chips snacks and it turns out that Dexter really likes them. Crunch!

After the many many nights of consecutive entertaining over Christmas, Don and I often take a hiatus for a while. Anyone who entertains a lot knows that it's totally fun to do, but it's also a lot of work and organization. But good friends are definitely worth it, and we're back in the saddle now that it's BBQ season.

I mean, what's the point of having a big table if you're never going to sit and eat at it with people you like?

I stumbled across your blogs about 6 weeks ago when I was considering buying a new bike to commute to work for the first time..... I have now been cycling on my gorgeous red Pashley Brittannia for the past month and am totally loving it. I really like the concept of a mobile office - am also finishing off a Masters - and am going to try it out for myself this weekend!
Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration!
This entry was brilliant. Food, bicycles, waivy sail things, and cameras. And you always have such neat prints on your outfits.
Nummy-looking cupcakes! I made the mistake of riding my Pashley to Flirt cupcakes to pick up a six-pack. I tried to stick the tray in my front basket but I hadn't travelled one block when most of the cupcake icing was smooshed. Gotta find a way to transport those treats. I ended up eating 3 of them before I reached home :)
"people watching and shoe stalking" classic! I'm happy to see someone else indulges in the same vices that I do!
I was googling for the Cambridge satchel and ended up reading and enjoying all the wonderful entries in your blog! It's a refreshing read and love your photos! I'd love to have an Amsterdam one day when I don't live in Auckland anymore,it's too dangerous to cycle here. Again, great blog!
I admire how you can take photos of your surroundings without feeling self conscious about it.
P.S. I love getting glimpses of your home.
