The Bank with Marinoni.

Don is participating in The Every Day Challenge and although he basically lives the every day challenge on a regular basis, it's still fun to make a point en mass. There are certain trips we usually make by car. They're the places that have no reasonable route via bike or transit, so we don't fight it and reserve the car for those occasions. With the challenge however, we decided our dual trip to the bank should be done on bike.

The picture above is my favourite. Big big truck!

We opted for road bikes. It was sunny (no need for fenders), I was wearing a mini t-shirt dress (no need for chain guard), it was during the day (no need for lights), and I didn't have cargo (no need for rack or basket).

Even though it was hot and I had to take my helmet off right away so I wouldn't get sweaty hair, it was still fine to ride fast on this hot day. No need to change.

Afterwards we stopped on a bridge above the freeway so you guys could see some serious lane action.

I just wore my regular hand bag across the body. Sometimes bikes like the Pashley become synonymous with femininity, but regardless the bike, girliness always translates.

Speaking of girls and bikes, I'll be participating in Critical Lass this coming Sunday. If you're free you should come too!

Boy am I glad I don't have anything I do on a regular basis that requires riding on a 6-lane freeway (I do ride over one in the morning and watch the standstill traffic) :)

I agree, while upright bikes may have gained a lot of "feminine" image, they are by no means a requirement to look feminine while riding a bicycle.

Cheers!

*sigh* We need more group rides in PG. Critical Mass is so much fun here, even though we get a small group. :)

Portlandize - Yeah, the Whitemud is handy for moving east-west in the city, but it's not pleasant. People drive FAST. And widening the roads to give those cars more room just seems to make them drive faster.

Judy - Thanks for making me feel like a babe! Don't tell Bruce you want a road bike. Unless a road bike will help you ride to work with greater ease...

Carolyn - The group ride is a cute idea. The ringleaders are so motivated and go get 'em, I am in awe of their energy. Seriously. They're making buttons for us. Uh... WOW!

i wish i had the ability or the guts to try riding a variety of bikes. I've never before ridden any kind of bike with a top tube, drop handlebars or thin tires. Always rode ladies step-through frames and am embarassed to test ride a road bike at stores.

Ehn, there are better ways to go east/west than Whitemud, for sure. Argyll has wide sidewalks then sidestreet most of the way across.

Critical Lass, eh? Hm. I wonder if I own anything pretty and bike-friendly... Pencilled on calendar with question mark.

Anon - I used to have to ride my older brothers' cast-off bikes when I was small, so a dudes' frame isn't so bad. Actually, they're very handy for when you need to carry them! Now that I'm all grown up, having the right size is key.

ClpX - I'm sure YOU are pretty and bike friendly. Just come in whatever! I told the organizers now to make it too... specific because I want everybody to feel welcome. It doesn't mean having to come in a skirt or dress or heels. It's just a ride where a bunch of girls and dudes feel like riding around together and having some fun:) Hope to see you!

Hi Miss Sarah, It was lovely meeting you at Pecha Kucha. I hadn't been on your blog in a while so I had to get caught up. :-) Dexter is utterly adorable.

Could you post the url of where you bought your helmet? It would be very appreciated. Take care!

Crystal - I still have your card in my purse! Will get in touch about the link soon, but for now you can search online for predator (yes, predator) kayak helmets. Mine is the one with the brim.

Remember, it doesn't have vents:)

Hi Sarah - Dropping by to get my fix of "friendly" cycling. Was yelled at this morning by a super-fast woman flying downhill. Told me to get out of her way and "look before I turn". I didn't even have a chance to see her, she was coming so freaking quickly. Bah. Mean lady.
