Car Free Sunday in YYZ.

Sunday started with brunch with Mariya, at Brassaii.

Our waitress just happened to be back from teaching at play schools in Hungary. She was all over the baby and very helpful. Plus, this is one of the restaurants that stocks homo milk. That quickly puts it at the top of my list of places to like in Toronto. So this was definitely western food, but my french toast was amazing so I don't care that it wasn't "ethnic." Also, having brunch on King W is still a very T.O. thing to do so my authentic YYZ dining experiences continue.

They even brought him his own slices of watermelon without my evening asking. I made sure Dexter ate it with his shirt on (I fed him).

Real estate is such a hot conversation topic (well, it is for the people I keep running into). Mention buying a place in Toronto and people throw up their hands. It's expensive! This is why I was even more excited that Mariya has decided to put down roots and purchase a place. We went to go see her new digs after brunch.

She has lived all over the world for years on end, including some time in Amsterdam! She is no strange to the Oma bike.

However, this is my friend who has survived a Miss Sarah nightmare. Meaning, she wiped out on her bike. It was one of those tire in street car track incidents. Plus she was wearing super wedges with an ankle strap. Something about how she bailed out resulted in a broken foot and one of those boots for 2 months. EGADS.

She has, however, recovered. I am glad to see her well.

Afterwards she walked me over to Kensington Market to Sublime for my Bryce hang out.

So excited that my friends have made time to see me/us over our short weekend here. Bryce just played a solo show the night before at the Young Centre. I was sad to have missed it, but a live music show is not the sort of place I want to take Dexter. Particularly not at 10 pm. That's approaching his bedtime. So after a show and the after party. I was just surprised that he had energy at all to roll out of bed.

After some iced coffees we decided to check out the scene on the car-free streets.

A man manning his street food.

No cars, no cars!

Dude wearing his tire rim.

Lounging.

Bryce and a guy manning this booth helped me pick out a hat. Ta da!

Outdoor patios for everyone.

Shopping at cute cute letterpress card store.

Uncle Bryce being a good friend to Miss Sarah.

Adorable book store.

Lots of dogs out with their owners!

Ruff.

We opted to hang out in the park under the shade. Then commenced with chatter and people watching.

Dexter with his uncle Bryce.

Somebody had a bike that said something about being alone in your car if you drive all the time. I didn't have my glasses on so I could see properly. Nevertheless, I agree! Much of the time I always see a car with only one person in it. Must get boring.

Random happenings in the park. In this case it was a bunch of different park-folk holding up letters to spell the word Toronto.

Bryce took a photo of me in graffiti alley on our walk back to the hotel.

Changed into a different dress for a banquet that night.

My hairband.

The dinner was pretty cute. There were these old school glam girls in the entrance who you could have your photo taken with. The theme was Hollywood and show business so although these poor girls are way over the top, they were very popular. One of them said she liked my outfit. I told her I liked HER outfit. Mine didn't have wings!

Shiny ladies.

Sparkle sparkle.

Hollywood theme continues inside the banquet hall.

Dexter spent his time crawling around in the far corner (no tables there), staring at the decorative light show, and being passed from one eager baby handler to another.

The venue. Very grand looking.

Now that I know Dexter is very well received that these sorts of dinners, maybe if I'm short a babysitter I won't have to stay home. Just throw a good shirt on the baby and carry on?

Miss Sarah -- love the pics of my adopted city that I so rarely see IRL anymore...
Skipping to the bottom of your post, and the question about taking baby along to fancy outings:
I'm just back from a week in Utrecht, Amsterdam and Brussels and the European response to your query would most certainly be "Yes!" and I have to concur. The Europeans really don't have the adult space hostility to children problem that we have. I was at a dissertation defence party in a fancy restaurant that becomes a throbbing dance club and there were several children and babies in attendance, and even a giant pile of cushions near the dj table, where the kids could crash in a pile until their folks were ready to take 'em home.
As with all my previous trips around Europe, I saw babies and children out late at night with their parents in cafés, parks, and on terraces, at jazz festivals etc.
We need to start doing things the way the Europeans do, and I'll be the first to encourage you with a great big, "yes!".
