Got caught up with real life since we've been back home. I didn't even have time to post about our last day in Toronto!
We took a street car to meet Bryce for breakfast and coffee.

He works part time at the Tampered Press.

This is the owner, Caitlan. She is also a dietician by trade and made us delicious oatmeal and other breakfast treats.

Don and the baby hang out at the bar, having morning chit chat.

Bryce made me a coffee.

Bryce is one of the friends that got Don and me into making espresso with a proper machine at home. We used to always go to their place for coffee treats, but after they moved (Bryce was a hobbit in LOTR, the musical) we missed them and got a Wega of our own in their memory.

Breakfast table.

Dexter is super active now. He wants to crawl on his own and touch EVERYTHING.

Bryce and Brian outside before we had to break off.

Afterwards Dexter rides on the street car.

We headed to Leslieville and saw this cute cute house while stopped.

Every time I took out my fan (it was really hot), Dexter wanted to play with it.

He's also learning how to suck liquids up through a straw. I've seen tons of other kids do this already but Dexter can't get past chewing on it.

We were starving and saw this homely diner. It wasn't fancy, but it was really delicious. Based on the accents I heard from the waitress and yelling from the kitchen, I figured ordering a chicken souvlaki wrap would be a win. I was right!

Toronto was such a wonderful little escape with the little guy. And seeing old friends. You end up remembering how much you love them, and also how you're still connected despite the distance.
Getting away was great, but it's also wonderful to be home too. The things I like about Toronto, such as the food and walking all the time, and riding around on street cars... though we might not have the same density or diversity here in Edmonton, it's that feeling I'm after. That's why I spend less time in the car and more time out on bikes and transit. Just makes me feel good.

Sounds like you had a great trip, topped off with a fantastic last day. Your little guy is so cute. He's getting so big; looks like a little man! :-)
Linds - He is indeed a big boy now! Can't wait till he can say "mama"
Reading this is like a quick visit to TO - Thanks.
Dexter with the fan and chomping the straw - ultra sweet. Such a lovely child. And I'm not related.
Dare I suggest you teach him to blow bubbles into his drink? It can help with a stronger understanding of the straw's usefulness. Clearly, the idea goes both ways - so you have to be prepared for his subsequent desire to bubble, with the straw that is!
hi, living vicariously via your posts on the trip to Toronto (used to live there, before moving to Winnipeg (with bike!)). Had to laugh when I read about Dexter chewing straws instead of sucking up on them - my oldest had trouble at first until we accidentally squeezed the cup he was trying to sip out of too hard - the liquid whooshed up the straw and into his mouth - he mastered sipping through a straw in about a minute and a half after that! Might work for Dexter?
mmm excellent coffee
Which Wego machine do you have?
Whoa, big changes here with the design! Color!
I love looking at all of your vacation photos. Toronto seems like such a cool place, especially through your eyes.
I like your new design, Sarah!
