Adam's Birthday.

My friend Adam turned 30 and we were invited to a nice birthday dinner at Manor Cafe last night.

It was a classy little affair. I made him a couple of ramekins of peach crisp (with the peaches from last Saturday's market) in a customized "Happy Birthday Adam" bag.

It was a gift of love.

Here is the man himself!

And his lady friend, Rachel, the organizer of this gathering. Of all the years I have known Adam, I have never celebrated a birthday with him. He's not usually into making a big deal out of it. I was happy that Rachel took the reins this year so we could show Adam some appreciation.

Here is Adam's brother, Josh.

I've known Adam for a long time. Ever since my first university boyfriend way back in undergrad. Once we had gotten to know one another it turns out he grew up only a few blocks away from me. We had never met before then because he attended French immersion Catholic schools and I was a public school girl.

He eventually came to work for the Gateway (campus newspaper) with Don and they too became good friends.

Adam was also the MC at my wedding.

See? So charming. Though he can also be incredibly vulgar and inappropriate, which is one of the reasons I love him.

I brought Dexter. After all, babies are so tender and delicious this time of year.

Raffaella took a picture of me and baby. I don't usually wear all black and I don't usually wear trousers over dresses either, but last night I did both.

The people sitting with us were totally into the baby and so were other guests. Auntie Raffaella was super helpful as usual, helping me feed the baby snacks and entertain him. He was quite well-behaved. Just a little obsessed with going down the stairs. I'm glad he is a social baby. It makes it infinitely easier to carry on with life when your baby digs going out and hanging with your friends.

Happy 30th, Adam!

Thanks so much for coming, Sarah. It was great to catch up with you, however briefly. And little D was outstanding as usual.

Tonight: peach crisp for dinner ;)

We love watching Dexter grow up ...
Seems almost like one of our own grandkids.

Laura - I was sort of hesitant to buy peaches at first (I don't like peeling off the fuzzy skins), but crisp treated them very well.

Freth - Awww, I love you guys! And also love the idea of Dexter having "online grandparents"
