Folk Festival - Friday.

Here I am clearly aghast at how advanced Dexter is. Reading his folk fest program already!

Today we went down to the festival hill via transit. Rode the train 1 stop to the University, then hopped on a special bus that goes right to the hill. So convenient! Don had already ridden down to the hill and back earlier in the day when he was on tarp duty. We decided to diversify in our transportation choices.

The hill was full of folk-festers, as usual.

I love these people at the top of the hill who do tents. It's really handy for when you have a few families with kids. It's a retreat from the elements and also a good napping spot.

On our way to the tarp we ran into Wade, Glen, and John. I'm pretty sure they were on their way to a session at one of the smaller stages.

Then we bumped into Massood, one of the most adorable men around. He is into natural landscapes and is a volunteer with the festival as well.

I was starving so I hit up the Thai place.

Gimme gimme food food food.

While at the food fair, we saw Dave.

Stage 1 is closest to the food so we wandered over there to have a seat while eating. We stumbled upon Diana and Ewan again! They were kind enough to share colouring with Dexter.

Tonight is largely about Dexter, actually. He was a very active little fellow.

Macking on girls.

Running into baby Marcus whose parents we are friends with.

Escaping our tarps and annexing lawn chairs from neighbouring tarps.

Not looking guilty.

Stealing water bottles.

Then Kris came back around.

And other Kris (there are a lot of them) caused Dexter to somehow be confused.

The arrival of auntie Raffaella!

Michelle and Heather ate snacks.

The Levon Helm Band rocked! They were several magnitudes more enjoyable than the previous night's offerings. Every single song was gold.

Don and I both got our wristbands today. They allow you entry for the entire weekend. It's funny when you're around town over the festival weekend and you see others with the same wristband. I feel a certain affinity with these people.

The time came for mini doughnuts.

Churn.

There was dancing.

And candles.

And an adorable lantern parade with little lanterns representing the various groups of volunteers.

We ended the evening with a show from Calexico! They were fab. Seriously. Could potentially be classified as world fusion, but not cheesy at all.

I can't believe Dexter lasted as long as he did. He actually fell asleep in his stroller on the hill during Calexico (I am amazed because it was so loud) and he stayed that way until well after midnight when we got home. A splendid day and evening at the festival!

See you tomorrow.

He sure has lots of personality! :)

I've never been to the Folk Festival in Edmonton, heard it's good. I've been to the Fringe Festival though, and I loved it!

haha... Berto always used to steal other people's drinks when he was a baby.

I really like that picture of me and Dexter. He's a photogenic little dude.

Also, nice shots of the event. Giving me a run for my money. Photoblogging is cutthroat business.

Diggin' your sassy new hair style, Sarah. I used to love wearing my hair short. The only trouble is you have to stay on top of the hair cuts.

Carolyn - Folk fest is amazing! It's like camping and concerts, but with all the modern amenities and lots of random friend sightings:)

Fella - The water bottle is indeed cute. What I know of taking photos is largely osmosis via the master of such things (aka: you)

dream - Thanks! I'm full of sass. I know what you mean about the maintenance, but now I've got this guy in Chinatown cutting for $32 and I can luxuriate in shortness.

If that ever changes I could always by a flowbee.

Yeah, a flowbee!

Awh-baby d looks like such a cute little man. Mom and I miss him! He looks so cute holding the water bottle. But Mom and I got a little scared when he was holding on the back of the lawn chair. That's totally how he tipped the stroller at our place.

Anyway, I'm loving your Folk Fest updates, it's like I'm there! I'm having a good time with Mom though. She's moving slow but she's not being moody so that's nice. I just need to keep buying her cold drinks and letting her lean on my shoulder. It's like Dad in China all over again.
