Don helped me fix my photo upload problem! It seems as though firefox enjoys my blogging more than safari. Who knew? The formatting is proving problematic so my posts may look wonky.
So we arrived in Chicago around dinner last night. Bought a 7-day transit pass, and hopped on the El train into the city. I love that you can look out over the city while you're on it. And the stations are like a time warp.
After checking in we were totally famished. There was a Chicago-style pizza place a few blocks away from the hotel so we went and got us a pizza pie.
All I can say is OMG. They are really delicious but also ridiculously filling! Don and I shared a size small.

We needed to walk off the deep dish so we headed over to Millennium Park for look at some landmarks and night photos.
Thanks to Raffaella for lending me her older camera with a wide angle lens. Definitely gives me more options when shooting things that are huge, like tall buildings.
Impressions so far? Chicago is a city in a league of its own. I can't say it gives me that "just like in the movies" feel like Paris or New York, but it has a distinctly American feeling. It's hard to explain. Needless to say, the architecture is crazy impressive and the people are really friendly.
There also seem to be WAY more McDonald's here than I have seen in a long time. Though, that may be specific to the area around the Loop where we're staying. Our 'hood reminds me a lot of Midtown in NYC.
Oh, and there may be a lot of McDonald's locations, but there is also lots of pubic art. Getting to see Picasso and Miro on my way over to Macy's? Awesome.

Tip: For the best pizza, you need to go to Lou Malnati's. There is one close to the Loop in River North, on Wells street near Hubbard. Its so good.
I hope you have fun in my city! I love it. If you can, bike out to Wicker Park. Its a great scene.
David - Thanks for the tip! How can you guys eat pizza more than once a week? MAN. That was hard core!
I definitely plan to head to Wicker Park, I think Dottie and I are going to do it on Saturday:) My mother-in-law clipped out a Globe and Mail piece about the neighbourhood too, and saved it for me. Sounds like good food and people watching. Very very my speed!
Your city is tres cool.
Glad you and Don are having a most excellent time in Chicago! We loved it when we went earlier this year. We went to Giordano's for deep dish(downtown area, off state street) and it was awesome, but very popular. I think the wait time was 1 hour and 45 minutes all said and done, but very well worth it.
Also, found out the hard way that not all subway stations are wheelchair accessible. Check online if you are going to lug your bike anywhere, because it was NOT FUN to drag a stroller and two suitcases up three flights of stairs! I would assume likewise with a bike. Other than that, the subway is awesome and we used it the whole trip to travel 'round the city.
just come across your blog - thanks for the information.
I have a question about storing your bicycle - whats the best/ secure storage for bikes/ spares etc
Is this any good? Its the new twin bike locker from Asgard http://www.asgardsss.co.uk/detail.php?pro_code=BL3&cat_level=0&cat_code=CBS
Thanks
These pictures are amazing! I love those wide angle shots of the Bean. So cool. How wide is that lens? Now I want one :)
Looks like you ate pizza at Giordano's. That's my favorite! But yes, I can eat only one or two pieces.
We'll definitely go to Wicker Park. We can fit in some shopping before drinks, too, depending on how Don feels about it. I think the best shopping is there in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood - everything from lots of thrift and vintage stores to hip boutiques to anchor stores like Marc by Marc Jacobs.
I'll be really interested to hear more about your take on Chicago versus NYC. Having just visited NYC, I have to say that Chicago is better, but I'm highly biased.
Ohhhhh-- can't wait to see photos of you & Dottie together! Have a great time.
Those are fantastic night shots!
