Heritage Days.

Yesterday we converted to total pedestrianism and walked down to the Heritage Days festival down in Hawrelak Park. No bikes. No transit. Just feet.

Our house is actually quite close to the park. Through the river valley trails it takes about 20-30 minutes? Depends on how fast you walk. It's lovely to walk to this park because you emerge right in the middle of the park where all the action is happening. We came out right by the Holland tent.

This festival is very well-attended. I think it's the combination of multi-culturalism, food, entertainment (cultural dances and demonstrations at almost every tent), and shopping. Each year I go to the Hong Kong pavilion to buy new fans for the following year and usually I'll pick up a bamboo parasol too.

While at the HK pavilion we saw these cute kids doing kung-fu demos.

This demo featured a little girl beating up Nemo with her skills. When I was young my parents let me take a few classes of kung-fu, but my dad later decided girls who need their delicate hands for piano weren't suited for such activities as martial arts.

Beautiful dancing!

Drumming.

Dexter checking out his first tipi. He was super into touching the hides inside.

Hula.

Ukraine had stellar embroidery.

And this was the first time I saw Turkish oil wrestling!

India pavilion.

Alright, some of you are going to judge, but here is Don with his camel meat from the Somalian pavilion. He said it was very delicious.

And before we left, we passed by Mexico.

On our way out we ran into this lady who worked for the city. She was taking a count of all the people who had parked in neighbouring communities and were walking to the festival site. When we passed she remarked that we too were walking back up to our car, no?

No.

We were walking back to the bungalow. No parasitic parking for us. Just pedestrianism.
