Tonight we took Dexter to the Alberta Gallery of Art for a party.

It's such a great entertaining space.

Libations.

Dexter made lots of friends. I don't think it's customary to bring toddlers to these things but we didn't have a babysitter so... we just went. Dexter was very welcome!

The other time Dexter was at an AGA party there was a bag pipe and little D just erupted in tears when it all started up. Luckily, no incredibly loud noises this time.

Or the only one wearing heels.
There were friends, like Fish!
And Tom and Ania.

Dexter claps his hands when he is excited.
Girls lounging.
Feet.
Dexter found a part of the floor that lights up, and practiced his walking. He extends his arms for balance. It's pretty cute.
This woman was wearing a giant stripe tube dress with a boxy blazer. It was killer.
Up on the third floor the Burtynsky exhibit was swarming with people. The photos are really amazing. And depressing. The visuals of what we're doing to extract oil and the lifestyles we've built around oil are really unsettling. It's strange to have these feelings while looking at beautiful photos.
To get an idea of the show, check out the vid:
And on a less serious note, the party was winding down after we went through the exhibit with Dexter.

The AGA has a super fun staircase.

Dexter loves stairs. We live in a bungalow so he doesn't get to do all that much stair climbing at home.

It was a good party with lots of friendly faces. Nice to know that life with a toddler (I think this may be different having two kids or kids who are older and need more entertaining) doesn't always mean being restricted from doing the things you want to do on a Friday night.
I was very pleased to take Dexter out for a nice evening, but the real show stopper was the Burtynsky exhibit. I'll definitely be going back to spend more time with the photographs when it's less busy and I'm not on Dexter's timeline for bed.
Speaking of which, good night!

JUST like in zombie movies!
Didja hear about the postsecret event @ University of Alberta on Oct 9 & 10th.
I went for a bike/camping trip from Edmonton to south of Wabamun this summer. We passed by Keephills. The giant earth movers and excavations, and the rolling hills and blue sky and water made for a fantastic view. It was gorgeous. The beauty of it was a bit disconcerting, knowing what you're looking at. One of those skin-deep things, I guess.
I didn't have my camera (hauling my DSLR 100km and then into the backcountry just wasn't appealing), so I don't have any photos. But they would've been good! Apparently the coal plant owners have never viewed their operations from a bicycle, because I can't find any attractive photos online.
