The Lake.

Today we took Dexter sailing at Wabamun lake! It wasn't his first time, since we took him last year as well, but it was his first time going as a mobile being. I think he looks very cute in his life preserver. Little dude can't swim yet.

Rewind.

On our way out we stopped at elm for lunch sandwiches. Richard's treat. Yes!

I used the coffee sleeve Marilyn made me for my birthday.

Once at the lake, Dexter was given a little patio chair just the right size for him.

Richard and I took the baby to the general store for snacks (the Seba Beach thrift store was closed - curses), then came back to find the boat ready to go.

Here are a bunch of cute boat-parts.

Remember when I said I have relatively little understanding about how all this works?

Dexter samples the lake water.

And the compass tells us where we're going.

Mast and sail. Usually we sail with white sails but today they took out this one.

Rope.

True to form, I was at the front reading alongside my best friend. Richard on the right was reading something Aristotle-related (for work/school) and I'm on the left totally engrossed in the comic, Walking Dead, that Richard has gotten me addicted to. The problem is that they're all on Richard's iPad so I need him around to get my fix.

The comic is really quite excellent. It's the best elements of any zombie movie I've seen and any good zombie book I've read. The graphics are fantastic too. It's actually going to be made into a new television series too.

Though it's fall-like weather for us, we had a decent amount of sun keeping us warm.

Captain Dexter.

I'm really glad we got a chance to be out on the boat! The campaign and my thesis and getting everything ready for back-to-school with work have made an excursion like this difficult to plan.

I think with life being so particularly busy, it's especially important to schedule little opportunities like this to get away and spend several hours breathing in fresh air and being out under the sun.

I get that every time I'm out on the bike, but in those instances I'm the one doing all the work. On the boat I get the liberty of reading my zombie cartoons.

I saw the photo of you and Richard reading and thought, "who's sailing the boat?" Then I saw the photo of Dexter at the tiller, and thought, "whew!"

Sung - Yeah, Dexter had everything under control so we could enjoy our time in the sun. With a little help from Don and Grandpa, of course.

We sail too! Actually we might be getting our own boat next year - since right now we are at the mercy of our friend willign to invite us! :)) I loved this post since we are off sailing between Ottawa all the way to Montreal (stop in Montebello)for the long weekend! whooot!!

I only wish there was room for my bike for when we drop anchor and go for supplies! My bike would be so great now that I have my betty liner for my basket!

ps. Like you i let my Love figure out the actual sailing part - all those bits ....
