La Boheme.

Last night Don and I biked to the first opera of the season, La Boheme. The Jubilee Auditorium has had a bit of restructuring in terms of parking, and now there are these great bike racks.

I wore my new basic black patent dress shoes. They're still very stiff because patent leather takes time to break in. They make me very tall. I'm almost 5'5 in these things!

I really wasn't in the mood to wear a dress so I went with a puffy silk skirt and a white ladies' tuxedo shirt (with pearl necklace) under my trusty wool blazer and super scarf.

At the reception afterwards I drank champagne and ate cupcakes and met several engaging people. It was a really fun time!

And I took a picture of shoes. Clockwise from me on the left: Ursula (in white), Ben Henderson (city councillor, Edmonton ward 8), Laurie Blakeman (MLA Edmonton-Centre), and Brian Deedrick (Edmonton Opera's Artistic Director).

The opera was very beautiful. The set and scene for Momus Café was really a feast for the eyes, with people and bustling and lights and sparkles everywhere. Laura Whalen playing Mimi was a real treat as well. I heard her sing Filumena a few years back and was really impressed back then. I was happy to see her on stage again.

Opera, champagne, cupcakes, friends, and bikes. Sounds good to me!

Beautiful shoes! And I love the bike racks, so simple yet so elegant :)

can I ask a question? Unless they have some little ankle straps or similar I keep on losing court shoes (or even simple pumps) when waiting at traffic lights (my seat is high enough to only need to tip toe when I am waiting for lights to change). How do you do it? (or maybe it's just me lol!)...

Thank you :) L x

Sable - He usually buys them when he is in Berlin:)

Ridonkulus - I love simple but pretty bike racks like this. So much better than those stupid wheel-bender ones.

LC - I usually have the most issues losing flat shoes while riding! Because when my toe goes down my heel comes out of the shoe. I generally don't have issues with pumps, though I am a fan of mary janes because the straps give me better fit and I can walk faster:)

City Girl - Boheme is such a classic. A really good one for opera newbies too.
