In preparation for winter, I've recently dropped off two pairs of shoes to get the heels replaced. Today was pick up day, and I subsequently dropped off my two very well-worn winter boots as well. Sometimes an old shoe or boot can be made new all over again with a little TLC.
The weather was very fine for shoe delivery via Amsterdam's basket.

Seems there is a new tea shop at Southgate mall. This isn't bike related, but I just thought the store looked very clean and attractive. Will check it out another time.

The leaves were so beautiful last week, but a few days of heavy wind and the trees are now fairly naked.

But I did happen to ride by something else beautiful and green!

Broke out an old plaid top that I really like.

And ran into yet another happy lawn sign.

Also used the bungees and rear rack to transport home new shoes in addition to refurbished old ones.

In an email or comments lately somebody noted that I could do a whole post about the shoe collection. Perhaps:) I'll have you know I do wear every pair, and it's taken many years to amass a diverse collection of size 5 footwear.

You're such a better shoe mom than I am! There are at least 3 pairs with visibly pealing soles, yet I'm still to lazy to bring them in. Maybe one day. You're a good influence.
I have to lug home a huge garment bag today by bike. I guess I'll have to make use of my bungies or pile my purchased on and wear the stuff home. Should be interesting.
This is kind of a random questions - but I also live in Edmonton and was wondering where you get your shoes repaired here? I just moved from Montreal last year and had a great guy there, but I got kind of burned by a poor job/insanely inflated price to get my winter boots reheeled at a place here. Now I am a little gun shy to try another place without a recommendation.
s.lucky: I recently asked Sarah the same thing! I moved to Edmonton in July and am also in search of a reputable cobbler.
Southgate has a place called Shoemasters that is probably the one mentioned in this post.
Also, there's a place at West Edmonton Mall called Rucallen Shoe Repair that is supposed to be good. I asked at Brown's in WEM and they said they send all their repairs there.
lovely fall pics. I was on the phone with my aunt in edmonton and she was telling me about the weather. Your post pretty much touches on all she told me! I like getting the older persona version and then the hip version afterwards. ( aunt is old skool and lives by the weather. All emails and phone calls are about the temps and the condition of the garden. Very by the seasons.)
I preparation for winter I dug my cotton socks out of the drawer. I'll wear them with my earth-sandals for most of the winter.
WalMart stops carrying earth-sandals for men by the middle of the summer. Good thing I bought a couple pair early on. I do have Nashbar riding sandals that I wear with my one bike that has clip-on pedals. Oddly enough, that bicycle is a cheap townie that I also bought at WalMart. Sometimes I switch over to Crocs, but they are a bit slippery in rain (broke my leg a few months ago due to that).
A couple mornings this week I had to put on a light vest due to the jetstream chill coming down from Canada. Although today is going back up to 92°F. In the winter, I feel for you all up in places like Edmonton and Copenhagen (Københagn) ... although in the summertime I'd rather be living there. :-)
It is awesome weather this October!
For shoe repair, I always use Corona Shoe Re-nu. They are downtown:
10050 - 104 St Edmonton, AB
Phone: 780-428-7679
They are very good.
Dottie - I have to be a good shoe mom, it prevents me from buying too many new ones:)
Anon - Do you have a basket? Though, I suppose a garment bag is pretty large...
S. Lucky & Karen - Hey Girls, sorry for the delay. Yes, the guy in Southgate was Vietnamese and adorable. Had them ready in 2 days and the prices were reasonable (I think). $15 to replace heels.
Mama - We talk about the weather a lot because our weather is so BRUTAL.
Freth - I do like the fact that we don't deal with ridiculous humidity too.
KC - Thanks for the shoe referral! That's a great tip for my north-of-river friends:)
