It's Cold.

Oh man. It snowed overnight and all day and now we're fully winterized here in Edmonton. Today was cold. The current temperature is -18C/-1F.

But Don still biked to work today. He was giving a talk at the University of Alberta and just layered up for the ride.

First layer was his regular work stuff. Then he put on his snow pants over dress pants, and added a fleece.

Added an extra thin bike jacket thing, and I believe he wore his normal winter coat on top.

He also rode his winter mountain bike, which is really handy on days like today where you have to pedal through the "oatmeal" snow.

I didn't have to leave the house today so I didn't bother biking. I don't like biking the first day of snow and on oatmeal days. I'll do it if necessary but if I don't actually have to be out? I'll opt for waiting an extra day so that the snow can turn into ice.

But here are a few winter fashion purchases from Christmas shopping the other day.

Two new pairs of opaque tights.

A dressy dress, and a cozy cardigan.

And this is what I wore today.

Strapless polka-dot sweetheart dress with a cardigan.

And flat winter boots for Dougal walking.

Pirate Dougal was skeptical of all the snow.

And my own winter layers. Wool and cashmere coat with merino wool Burberry scarf.

Bracing myself because I know it's only going to get colder. Happy winter!

Wow. You look great. I have a hard time motivating to dress nicely if I stay home.

Amanda - Oh, foo indeed! I am shocked every time I open the door. And I grew up here.

Mama - I have my students who come to see me so it's basically like going to work, except them come here:) On my days off if I'm not going to meet anybody, I'll wear leggings and a long sleeved T for sure! May throw on a cardigan, a scarf, and/or some bling if I have to run out.

So stylish, and so warm! Love your dress.

Anytime I hear people say that I am nuts for biking in the Winter, I mention that I know some professionals that bike all year round, ones that could afford a car, but chose to bike. So I am not crazy! ;)

I am saving up for a mountain bike that I will buy in Spring to use next Winter. Maybe I can get last year's model and get a deal on it. It hurts me not biking as much right now. But I think a Mountain Bike w studded tires will handle the snow better.

Carolyn - You are certainly my crazy! Winter biking is a wicked workout too, and once you're moving it's not cold unless it's a particularly ridiculous day.

Mountain bike with studs is the best combo for winter!
