The Sleeping Beauty.

Last night an old skirt and I rode to Alberta Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty.

Turned out Sable was done on campus early and also attending the performance, so she came over to hang out at the bungalow and rode with us.

She is an obedient sister and finally took my advice to put a light on her bike.

I had initially planned to wear heels since that's what I usually do for a formal outfit. But upon putting on the skirt I realized it was hemmed for flats. It was my grade 9 graduation dress! I may have first worn it when I was 14, but quality things last a long time.

When my mom first took me to the store and showed this skirt to me I asked her if she was crazy. None of my friends were going to be wearing big ball gown skirts to the grad. It would be so weird! But she insisted that it was classy and she was also paying for it... so that's what we bought.

And she was right! It's a great skirt. 100% raw silk with black lace sewn into the hem of the lining. I wore it with a plain black tank.

Sleeping Beauty was really impressive. And I know this sounds stupid to say of a ballet, but it was incredibly dance heavy. The Tchaikovsky score just kept on rolling out of the pit (thanks to Edmonton Symphony) and the dancing just kept coming. Pas de deux. Solo. Ensemble. There were many examples of all these.

I think the dancers must have been so exhausted. The whole production was around 3 hours long with two intermissions. Pretty epic stuff.

They also had Nutcracker costumes on display. So pretty.

I was once one of the child dancers in a production of Snow White and I thought I would get to wear something fabulous like these costumes. Too bad I was just a lowly page. In retrospect, however, the page boy costume was pretty fly. Very latter years of Henry VIII.

Just another evening out with the bike. I regret the cropped tweed jacket, but it was the coat next to the door when I was on my way out. My wool tuxedo blazer is warmer.

I'll definitely keep my eye out for more long ball gown-like skirts like this in the future. It was SO WARM during the ride! Also, the loop frame lived up to its turn-of-the-century reputation and made dismounting with a skirt this huge, very easy.

Gawd - Yes, I was wearing the same one but in gold! She got them for us while on vacation in San Francisco.

Anon - Maybe more snow white, if I had the apple too?

Dan - Yes, that's what I thought!

Awesome skirt. Your mom was right - simple and high quality pieces like that never go out of style.

hope you are feeling less tired. think there is a lot going around at the moment, plus people generally yawning and talking about how great it would be to hibernate!
