Three!

March 28, 2011

Today is Girls and Bicycles' third birthday!

To celebrate, I just ate that pink strawberry cupcake on the right, to commemorate my very first post. Funny, how something I wrote three years ago still resonates with me today.

I couldn't find my little birthday candles so you get three pictures of three lovely things.

May Girls and Bicycles continue to be sweet like the cupcakes above.

Fresh like the mini oranges below.

And green.

Sometimes I wish I could be more like other blogs. More technical. More organized. More bikey.

What these three years of blogging has taught me is that it's funnest to write and post about the things that feel natural to me. Although I do love riding the bike, what I find even more important is what riding has awakened and reinforced in me:

Love for my community, friends, and family.

Riding a bike and using active transportation may seem like a cheesy way to "change" your life, but when you start doing it (despite its ups and downs) you start to notice a smile on your face and joy in your heart.

I don't see why the most desirable lifestyles always seem to require the prerequisite of a motor vehicle (or several)... I don't subscribe to this line of reasoning and I challenge you to question it too.

Girls and Bicycles is meant to show what life is like for one girl and her bicycle.

Thanks to all you visitors who make posting so motivating and fun! Here's to three (or more) years!

Happy 3rd! I discovered your blog about a month ago and I went back and read from the beginning. I've been commuting for 20 years on the piece of junk bike I bought right after high school, and you (and a few other blogs) inspired me to finally upgrade to a sweeter ride.

I like how the blog is about your daily life, in which the bike plays an important part. Also? You're my style/food guru.

"Sometimes I wish I could be more like other blogs." I think sometimes we all have those moments where we think this, but in the end, staying true to our voice and where we want to be is what blogging is all about. If we were all the same, how boring would that be?!

Congrats on 3 years and may the journey continue to take you where you desire to go.

Happy blog birthday! I rather like the non-techniness of your blog; makes riding a bike a very normal thing rather than just for people who know how to fix a bike!

One of my fav blogs. I didn't realize I started reading shortly after you started! As another non techie bike blogger, I appreciate the musings of life without driving. And yes, biking has awakened the same things. Thank you.

Congrats on 3 years! Just starting reading your blog this year after I randomly googled "review cambridge satchel." Little did I know I would stumble across a blog that so closely aligned with my interests and beliefs! Keep up the good work :)

Congrats! I've been reading your blog for awhile, but this is my very first comment here! :) And I agree with Pretty Crow's comment above -- the wide range of posts is exactly why I love your blog. Keep it up!

Happy Third Birthday! I love your posts - they always help me to further appreciate the fact that I live in Edmonton.

You also helped introduce me to my lovely Devinci Paris last summer through one of your posts, so thanks for that! And I very much appreciate the non-technical nature of your posts :)

Looking forward to reading more about your adventures!

Hey Guys - Thanks for your warm wishes and your support! I guess the nice thing about the community of bike blogs out there is that no one person needs to be all things at once. I am digging the collective bikey family out there.

Thanks for reading:)))

HI! ;-)

I know you are not related to Chris Chan from EBC, but I did notice your name and wondered if you were also featured with Chris a recent magazine article in "Momentum"? or one of the local mags? That was a good article and great picture!
I have passed your blog link to a couple of lady friends who want to get back into biking, but are a bit older and heavier now, so it is much more of a challenge for them. I have helped one upgrade her mountain bike for more comfort and recommended something similar for the other. The second seems keen on learning to do her own repairs so I am trying to get her involved in Bikeworks etc. I have already suggested the ladies only repair days and the fact that we have at least one very knowledgeable female Bike Mechanic in our club.
Maybe you might consider an article on how there is a growing "girls with bikes" culture in Edmonton and North America. I have already mentioned this to these two friends, but maybe others would like to know that as well.
Congrats on your third year! ;-)
I thought about starting a bike blog myself, but got caught up in facebook and have several other fan pages now. Come check out my photo albums! Henry A. Rody on facebook!
Anyone who appreciates the Bicycle Lifestyle is certainly welcome to join my list of facebook friends! ;-)

happy 3rd!

i'm glad this blog is not "bikey." it showed me even non-bikey sporty people could ride around for transportation and that it's not that "extreme."
