Admittedly, there are certain destinations that I don't like biking to. And I also tend to stay away from cycling with Dexter if we're farther away from home and we are guaranteed to be out past his bedtime. So the other night, we carpooled! Picked up two of our dinner companions on the way to Chinatown for a fundraiser dinner for Edmonton's Chinese Garden.
At a red light I stared longingly out the car window at the fine lady above, on what looked like her Devinci Paris. She and I are helmet and saddle sisters too!
Then I looked out the other window and saw another cycling dude who was eager to be photographed.

I haven't been to a Chinese banquet in a while, so I was eager for all 11ish courses. The key is to pace yourself.
We were lucky enough to be treated to lion dance!
Dexter was very fun and charming, even though he kept wanting to go hang out with the seafood in the aquarium.
The many courses of food were paraded out, one by one.
And Dexter helped his dad deliver greetings.
If I'm going to drive the car on an evening out, I'd rather it be filled with 5 people instead of 2. The bike would have been a better post-meal constitutional, but with an expiring Dexter at the end of the evening, it was nice to just whiz home and put the dude to bed.
I promised him we will bike tomorrow!

I feel the same way, if I have to drive, I feel a lot better about it if I'm carpooling and using it to its max capacity! Dexter is just so cute, I've been loving your posts lately, they make me so excited for C. getting a bit bigger. Although at 3 months already, I feel like there is a world of a difference between now and the newborn stage. As they start to smile and interact with you, it's just so much fun.

That's Marianne! http://loosenyourbelt.blogspot.com/
yes. I agree. My goal is to use the car for the times when I really need to take lots of people, move long distances or deal with Sleepy kids late at night. ( or like I had to sunday- take a quick hung over ride to buy the children dunkin donut breakfast so mama can get back to laying prone on the couch. Oh bad mama bad mama, but she did have so much fun....)
Simply - Glad you dig the D, we do too! The car isn't all-evil. It's just overused and the default thing, which I think is the saddest part.
Anon - Thanks for the redirect, love her blog!
Mama - I am glad you had FUN! It'l be so good when the kids can ride to get YOU some morning after dunkin donuts:)
Wow. I can't believe I didn't see you beside me with a camera! I really must have been in my own world.
Also looking longingly at that photo, btw - I got a flat yesterday and my bike is stuck in fourth gear for some reason, so I've been pedestrian-ing it. Not nearly as convenient.
The banquet looks and sounds amazing too! Yum.
