Last year when we were camping at Elk Island we had to go into the town of Lamont to purchase a bag of ice and a jar of pizza sauce we had forgotten to procure on our grocery run back in the city. We ended up stumbling upon the Lamont Days parade!
After the parade was over, the MC announced some of the other events happening that day, including the combine demolition derby. The derby wasn't for several more hours so we returned to the campground after exploring the town for a while (Don bought me a brass pegasus from an antique store for my birthday). When we returned later on, it appeared as though the announcement about the derby's start time was merely information regarding the time when ticket sales would begin. Not wanting to stick around for several MORE hours, we gave it a miss.
But we weren't going to miss it this year. We went back.
Here we have Dexter looking really skeptical next to Shafraaz.
The rest of us were content to ogle from the fence.
Nothing could have prepared me for how thoroughly entertaining it was.
I will never look at a combine the same way again.
I mean, fun for the whole family!
Drivers in coveralls, with volunteer firefighters keeping an eye on the proceedings.
And best of all, the combines KRUNCH!
Dexter... was mostly really confused.
Here he is putting on his "binoculars."
WOW.
Baby Alice was smiling and happy in the carrier with Don, until it was time for me to feed her. I never thought I would have the opportunity to nurse my baby amidst the sounds of old farm machinery ramming one another.
Lamont Days also featured a beer gardens, a midway with rides, steak dinner, chill cook off, and a dance! We were back to camp afterward in order to get our fire big enough to cook and feed the kidlets, but the trip into town was more than worth it. The combine krunch really exceeded my expectations!
I'll be back.
