The CASA Family Ride was so much fun! I have never had the desire to ride in an official "ride" before, but it's something I definitely need to do again. It's addictive!
The square was packed with hundreds and hundreds of riders. People are encouraged to come in costume and there are prizes for best costumes and teams, etc.
The little Pocahontas rider on the right was so adorable.
And look at these girls!
And matching little bros. My heart just melts, seeing so many kids riding along with us adults, just tearing up the course. I saw so many little people on the uphill part, on their heavy bikes, with zero complaining. They were so determined!
This family with the tag-along wore their clan kilts.
Clearly this mom's children got tired of riding, so she put them in the trailer and strapped their bikes to the trailer... and kept on riding. YES!
And here was Don, cruising alongside the team coach for Champion System Pro Cycling (CSS). Eek!
I already freaked out about how the Tour of Alberta is huge for my city and province in my weekender post. I sincerely hope we can do it every year! Everybody I spoke to on the ride was just elated at how this amazing sport has come to Edmonton.
As for the people I spoke to during the course - The ride was amazing! I suppose the big revelation for me was seeing cycling as a sport. For me, cycling has always been transportation. There are two sides to the coin! It was joyous to fly through intersections in my downtown, and pedal alongside new friends and even see some unexpected familiar faces. It was a beautiful day to be out on the bike, and never have I seen so many cycling families out at the same time.
Tune in this week to watch all the excitement and see my city and province!
